Just received my GranSport today...will post thoughts and comments and pics once I get to spend some time with it...quarter close kept me busy today...One question to other GS owners...what is your experience with using the MP3 functionality of the MMC slot in the Becker unit. I got the CD changer to allow me the option to put a Dension MP3 hard disk unit in the back but I was unaware that the head unit had an internal slot for MMC cards. I don't have any experience with MMC media but if I can easily rip CD's to the MMC card in MP3 format(I guess I have to buy a MMC reader to hook up to my computer) than I can keep the CDC and have more music capacity with the MMC. Does anyone use this slot on a regular basis. Any insight or wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks...SD does appear to work but the use of the changer is also a great idea...I do seem to like the sound of the car with the radio off just as much. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend...

mines coming in a few days !!

let me say right now I expect to have the stereo, mp3 player whatever turned off for a while at least! i intend to worry about such matters later - driving and listening to that engine come first!

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the car. I wonder whether Texas and UK Gransports are the same or have subtle or not-so-subtle differences?

So did you actually get an SD to work? If so can you give me all the details please (format, method of transfer, etc). I am pretty ignorant in this area.

I took an SD card out of my wife's camera and and placed some songs in MP3 format from a CD but that didn't work at all - I couldn't even get the unit to recognize that a card was in there. As an aside now the SD card won't even work in the camera anymore so maybe the unit broke it?

In any event, I was about to start hunting for MM cards (SD's seem plentiful). Any advice appreciated.

My GS plays MP3 with an SD card

I have not had a problem playing MP3 using a SD card. Just ripped from CDs to the card using a card reader in my photo printer. Itunes songs will not work as they are MPEG4/AAC format.

Good luck

The GranSport, as well as 90th anniversary cars are the only ones with the Becker headunit, and are the only cars with the SD slot.

I have not tried the SD part of the head unit, but I have used the CD MP3, and it worked pretty well. I think if I were to use it more often, I would probably edit some of the ID3 tags for shorter names, and probably lay out the songs differently within the CD to permit faster browsing with the headunit. Normally I burn the CD exactly the way iTunes sorts my songs, which is album folders in artist folders. This seemed somewhat slow for navigation on the non-ipod-intuitive head-unit display.

There are converters available for all of the major formats to MP3 (wma, m4a, aac) If you need help finding one I can point you in the right direction.

Its an MMC card only

I got mine at the local Best Buy. Your local computer store should have them or local cell phone store. They use them all the time in cell phones.

Be careful of bumps though, because mine when I hit a bump it knocks it off and i have to take it out nd put it back in for it to work. Great technology but i dont think all the bugs are worked out yet

Hard to say... the GS' are equipped with the Becker headunit. If it is the same Blaupunkt unit in the coupes and spyders, one word for you "SORRY" it's the worse CD player/changer of all time. Can't FF, can't play single track CD's...the list goes on and on...

How hard is it to replace the head unit in the coupe/spyders? Is there a conventional head behind the video display that can be swapped out? It sounds like the standard system is a loser.

On another topic, iTunes can play either MP3s or AACs. CD's can be ripped to whichever format you like. Copy-protected AACs (purchased through iTunes music store) could be burned to a CD, then ripped to MP3s. There are many ways to skin this cat.
