First, wow....kinda feel at home already. Feels a lot like a Porsche forum I was on years ago. Then...968....very underappreciated car. Pic not mine but close....loved it. Updated engine from the top, rebuilt from the bottom, not because it needed it but... because it wanted it. 996 wheels like here....beautiful.....

But....she's gone (to a good home).... as are kids.... time for me again.

Wife is nudging toward a Jag-F. Not sure. Thoughts?

I found this and any thoughts appreciated too" ZAM45VLA5G0163205,

Two owner, clean, seems well maintained. Thoughts? Have already search around and am thinking I know the general opinions.... but anything helpful.

Also....assuming you hear from me with a "got it" in a week... what are the must have mods? With the porsche was an easy airbox mod, known reliable chip, etc. Here no one seems high on a chip....but lots more on the nav systems and such. So just curious.

Thanks in advance, GT is beautiful car.

No “must have” mods , IMO , this car is perfect as it is ! Sure, you can add a few bells and whistles to it, you can upgrade the electronics ( telematics and controls main dashboard unit ) you can make it louder ( not sure why anyone would do that, but to each his own ..) you can add wheel spacers to enhance its stance, but there nothing you can do to it in order to make it any faster. And you don’t need to..it’s a grand touring car, not a sports car, and for that purpose it’s fast enough . And stunning . And an unmatched exhaust note . And extremely reliable .

As for the 968, under appreciated is an understatement; it’s by far the best car Porsche ever produced ! I’ve owned, and driven pretty much every Porsche model made . Nothing like the 968, and that’s why I bought two of them and still own one, which will go with me to my grave .. glad you found a good home for yours .. (y)

Thanks DS....appreciate the "it’s a grand touring car, not a sports car"... that's the sense I get and is really more of what I want right now. And love knowing another person out there who knows 968's. My cab was #3200 (give or take) into north America. Sold to my hippie contractor who loved porsches (had a beautiful 912 that needed a lot of work...lol).

And thanks Scott for the Jag comparison on model to consider more apples to apples.

Jags are cool...the v6 turbo is pretty amazing.... but something about a natural v8 that just makes me feel at home. Not sure why.....

Unless you get a 2018+, must have "mod" would be a USB/bluetooth adapter for music. Unless you don't listen to music. Then you're fine, just keep her clean :)

This car isn't for the speed racer because frankly it's not that fast or quick. Or the techy because there is no tech. This is for the guy (or gal) that likes to feel (and sound) like they are driving fast without actually driving that fast, in something you don't see every day, or every month for that matter. I still get giddy when I see another GT passing by. I'll sometimes go a couple/few months without seeing another and I live in a big city (Chicago). And to this date, I still haven't seen another GT MC in the wild.

6 more weeks and I can wake my beast from her winter slumber, she wakes up every year for St. Patty's day :)

You won’t regret going with the GT. It’s a car that is comfortable enough to drive across the country, but still sporty enough to have a lot of fun! Yes it’s big and heavy, but that sound!
As mentioned above, there aren’t a lot of them around either. I see F-Types all the time but rarely see a GT outside of meets. Happy hunting!

PAH.....just drive a GT. It will make your mind up really quick. It fits or it doesn't. Everywhere I go in my 2018 GT people make positive comments about it. It's fast enough to be fun...handles well enough to feel sporty.....but the looks and the sound....it turns peoples heads.

!00% - plus add rare to see others so more unique.

Not exactly the same, but I’ve had a 928S4 for 22 years. The transaxle Porsches are great.
I owned a 928 GT , two 944s, one 944 S2 , and two 968s… after a 911SC, and a 993 ( regret selling the 993 because they’re worth a small fortune now ) but transaxle Porsches are phenomenal . And 911 “purists“ can kiss my a*s, they’re ( in large part ) a morose , clueless lemmings cult . Anyone who has driven a transaxle Porsche and claims any 911 platform is better is in denial .
Here is the poster boy for every 911 fanatics PCA members I have encountered at shows , or at the track .

I do need to hop in and take for a spin. Work has been getting in the way. Love the "...the looks and the sound....it turns peoples heads." Ray. Why I used the 968 as an example. You just never see them, and when most people are like.... what's that?

Side question...I am not fully understanding the differences between the sport, mc, and mc cent. Seems like some aesthics.... and then yes some things like bigger rims and such. Looks like the one I am focused on is a Sport....I think.

When I decided to buy mine, I tracked models, years and pricing for about a year. In the last six months the used car market has taken a deep dive in prices. GT's included. My focus was on what I was willing to spend, car years(2016-2019) and mileage and service records. I know I will be doing most maintenance myself and have a pretty big Maserati dealer near me in case I run into stuff I can't fix. I also figured in 3,500 to 4,500 annually in expenses to keep her in perfect running order. Those annual expenses are just blind guesses, but I just needed to budget for it. My 2018 GTS had only 10,000 miles on it when I bought it and looked to be very well maintained. I've fixed a few relatively small issues myself and it's been a joy to drive!

This site also has some very helpful people that have given me some great advice on issues. I'm a real newbie with Maserati ....so this forum has been very helpful.

If you do much of the work yourself, I think an annual budget of $ 3500 to $ 4500 for just basic maintenance is an overshot by maybe 4 X more than what you will likely end up spending on this car . ( unless something major breaks down, or course ) . But just for oil and other fluids changes, belts, brake pads, etc, it’s not going to be anyway near that, IMO

Based on my experience, in the last nearly 8 years I’ve had the car, and I don’t do any work myself, ( I have always taken it to an independent mechanic for everything , and at a labor rate of $ 225 / hr. ) I don’t think I have spent more than $ 1,500 , on an annualized basis.

I’m not including tires in that equation .

I drive it between 10 - 12 K miles a year, I have oil changes done every 12 k miles, fluids changes every two years , belts have been replaced only after 5 years , although inspected every time I have an oil change, or any other service , brake pads were replaced after 35 K miles , and looks like I’ll be getting another 35 K or so from the second set ( I have not replaced the rotors yet - based on the last measurement they’re expected to be ok until about 80 K miles ) and I’ve had one alignment. So that $ 1,500 a year, includes parts and labor, the latter at the previously mentioned $ 225 per hour .

Some great information already given. I got ours - 2016 GT Sport w/ 31k miles in June last year because of the "cool" factor and the sound.... Damn - the sound. Then I drove from SC to MS to visit my brother as we were heading to the F1 race in Austin. Put over 900 miles on the car in that single trip and it was comfortable as could be for the drive. Completely justified the purchase.

It's not fast (well, 185 IS fast), it's not quick, it won't appreciate in value in all likelihood. But - it's sexy as hell. Even my wife said so.

Had Jason @ Enzo's do the oil/fluid change to start on the right foot. Then had them add the DBW kit from FD. That added a level of excitement by making the shifts quicker. My brother and I put on the spacers 22mm front, 25mm rear. Will have Jason do the lowering springs from FD sometime in the spring.

I'd like to upgrade the electronics, but figured I could just plug in my old iPod if I needed music. If....
