I didn't investigate deeply but it was showing a previous accident...maybe it had substantial damage before?

It passed NY inspection, which is good enough for me. I wanted to look at the car but was suffering from flu virus and couldn't have driven that far. I still can't stay awake more than three hours and have to rest after climbing stairs.

I did not see a lot of details in the listing.

If the car was not maintained. I can easily see $6k worth of repairs to do the clutch, heather core, some suspension work, interior finish, etc. in the near term.
Then it comes to the accident damage. If it was something very minor and well repaired, then I think the buyer did great. Otherwise, it really depends on the above variables.

That's always a risk with luxury cars. I've done a heater core and the suspension is pretty robust. With the Launch mini to check codes and estimate clutch wear I can do a pretty good PPI. I've bought two 4200's on ebay auctions so far and have no complaints.

Remember that using the Launch Mini, or other interrogation device, the % clutch wear can be "fiddled" by re-entering a new NCCP value. Is there a way of corroborating the date of when the NCCP value is entered with the dated receipts for the clutch components, say?

I haven't looked into that. Perhaps Lambertius has. Next time I hook up I'll see if there is a date stamp. I have a feeling most second gen owners aren't that sophisticated and there is another way of estimating wear by observing the channels in the face or measuring the pad thickness.

I fiddled a bit with the x431 but I could not find time stamp references. However, I have seen vehicle diagnostic logs that show “time since xyz” (usually associated with last DTC clearance or set) so there may be data there related to when the NCCP was last changed.
