Hi all,

I'm new here and just wanted to say "hi". My father called me last week and says, "Do you want a car?" And I say, "Sure...well, probably, but what kind is it?" He replies, "A Maserati." "What's the deal?" "My friend is wanting to get rid of it and if you will come and haul it off you can have it for nothing." Hmmm...a difficult decision...

So, here I am, soon to be taking delivery of a 1985 Biturbo E model that is being "given" me. ShE was once a beauty but has sat neglected in the Texas weather for the past 4 years because the driver's side window and passenger taillight were out.

As you might have already imagined, the window was down at the time of failure so the interior has been subjected to extreme heat, cold and rain, sometimes all in a single day -- and for way too long. The once beautiful leather is completely ruined on the drivers side and in bad shape in various other places. The paint is angry at the previous owners and looks like it. Of course, the various plastic/rubber parts are not nearly as everlasting that all the green/enviro types would have you believe.

I have learned a lot over the past 5 days about the brand and model and am a bit less excited about the car after having seen it. Nevertheless, what I've learned has also stimulated the "boy" in me after having seen the specs and various videos of the car in action. On the good side, only 4 years ago, this car was completely gone through, tuned up, running and even inspected. It was only parked because of the taillight & window (both apparently recurring problems as they were both repaired at the time of the tuneup).

The E has only 43K original miles and I will be only the second owner, though perhaps an additional owner would have been a good thing. Apparently the interior still "smelled good, like new leather" but 4 years ago. Very sad to see such a sweet ride neglected and disintegrating, but I hope to rectify this in time.

Any thoughts, recommendations or other wisdom will be thoroughly appreciated...

Interesting day today...my car guru friend came over to help me mess around with the Biturbo. He quickly managed to get it running with some starting fluid but it would die off pretty quickly after the ether was gone. So we started going through the fuel system. After examining the filter and pump we found the problem to be sediment clogging the tank outlet. After rectifying this issue and reconnecting all the lines, she fired right up and soon was purring like a kitten -- no smoke, running very smoothly, etc. Definitely some big grins all around.

Now I need to locate an air filter and probably a fuel filter as there is still some sediment in the tank. The local auto parts stores don't even have Maserati in their computers. I was wondering if anyone knew of parts equivalencies for some of these type items, or are they all special order stuff from Italy or whereever? Seems like I saw a site somewhere with some info of this type and I also though I saw these part numbers in my shop manual but when I went to find it again, it was well hidden.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated...
