I have a slightly different question:

Forgetting about sound for a moment, which system/set-up offers the most improvement in terms of horsepower?
I don't believe that anyone's done a completely exhaustive testing... claims are not accurate enough to get a true result. I honestly think it's not rocket science here and you will get a similar gain with all products. Most manufacturers don't focus on HP gains, they focus on the sound that's produced.

Hi guys,
I have been looking at getting an exhaust and I have finally decided on Larini rear boxes. How easy is it to instally on my own (on a 2002 Spyder cc)? Will i need to remove any of the rear bodywork? Also, where is the best place to get them from? Thanks for all of the help-
Formula Dynamics is the sole importer of Larini Exhaust systems for the Maserati. There are other Larini dealers however they will not be able to order the product for the Maserati and likewise we cannot order the product for say the Lotus cars. Prices for Larini will be increasing shortly due to the weak USD, increasing shipping and material costs, now is a great time to purchase before the price hike.

Fair enough. The Larini on your website is absolutely faboulous!

Would you reckon a 10hp gain or thereabouts for most systems?

I'll have a set of Tubi Mufflers for sale here shortly, they have some testing time on them. I prefer the Larini and really only had them for comparison purposes. I have a few more dyno runs to do with them, they should be available next week. Make an offer if interested.

Also I have a stock GS X-pipe, if anyone is interested.

TUBI Muffler on e-bay

Just a quick quick question. How diiferent will the sound be if I change only the muffler? I just saw that on e-bay and "Goodfela" mentioned...

The sound difference on all models (including the GS) is a large one when replacing the mufflers. All stock mufflers, yes... even the GS Mufflers have a lot of noise baffling. Going to any aftermarket rear muffler will cause a big differene in sound, tone and volume. It's a big improvement for any enthusiast.

Any non-gs customer will gain a significant amount of tone and horsepower from replacing the heavy center resonator between their cats and mufflers to a Larini X-pipe. If you have a GS the difference is still there but not nearly as large since you have a factory x-pipe.

Tubi claims 5-7% (about 20 HP) for the mufflers alone. As far as I can gather, the X-Pipe (Larini or the OEM GS unit) will give another 10 HP and a cat bypass another 10 again. Total cost of $6K for 40HP. That seems about right for my running average for most power upgrades (approx $150/ HP) - unfortunately there is no cheap power fix for these highly tuned engines.

I can pretty much guarantee though that you will not get a +40hp gain from that combination, maybe half that or a bit more.

Tubi's 5-7% is based across all models and inflated for the Maser. I have never seen or heard of more than a +12hp from a Maserati Coupe Muffler.

I second that. Having done several dyno and before, tubi doesn't give you the 15hp increase they claimed.

I just wish I could make up my mind on which one sounds better to me! I keep going back and forth between tubi and larini.

I've got them both in stock currently, go with your gut and pick one. Then give me a ring for an offer you can't refuse.... lol

Seriously though I can let you try one and if you're unhappy you can exchange it for the other, just pay the shipping both ways.

I suggest the Larini for the best overall sound and power. However there are a lot of Tubi fans out there that we're trying to win over!

If it means anything: I used to be a Tubi guy, as Jeff will attest, but he convinced me to test out the Larini and said that if I wasnt happy, I could swap them...

Now that I have heard it in person, I would never dream of it.

What role does the resonator play?

I really like my stock system with the Tubi's, particularly the low rumble at idle. My car idles much lower than, say, a 430 or 360. Is that due to the resonator?

from what i've "heard" literally, the tubi is a lower growling tone while the larini is a more high pitched screaming noise. i think it's 100% personal preference. i like the low tone of my stock muffler so i think the tubi upgrade would be appropriate. thinking about buying the tubi soon.

Why is that Ali? Anything in particular?
It is VERY hard to explain, but the Larini sounds like a mix of a Ferrari 430 or 360 with a Lamborghini Gallardo...

It has a rumble that turns into an F1 tone as you drive...

To put it another way: The Tubi is "noise" (booming, etc.) while the Larini is "tuned"

If anyone knows how to put a black bar over my license plate in the video I have taken of the exhaust, I can put it up right now!
