Navi Distances

Hi,
I just got my '05 GT back from FM of NJ last week, nice people & service.

One of the items fixed was changing the italian voice to English (I dont have the 'setup' disk).

Now when I use the navi, the voice has all the distances wrong...for example it will say " In one mile..." when it clearly says on the screen "250 yds." or "370 yds." The distance of 250 or 370 yds. is correct but the voice has the distances all wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this problem??
Thanks,
Eric

Welcome to the wonders of the Maser Nav-System :)

Yeah, the distances are all wacky. Take the road on the right means take the exit. Take the road on the left means stay on the highway.

My wife and I have named our system Millie. We love Millie but think she is rather off her rocker.

I gave up and bought a Garmin c340 last week. Absolute perfection! Easy to use, intuitive, good database, accurate. Total cost < $600. Plug-and-play with a windshield suction mountain. Use 12V power or 4 hours on rechargeable battery.
Switched to metric

I have the same problem with spelled out distances.

I changed to metric and it appears to be more accurate!!

I am planning to buy a Garmin nuvi 360 (with the Bluetooth function for the phone). I use a Magellan Roadmate on another car and it is way better than the Maserati. The add-on GPS units also have the advantage that software and maps get updated from time to time, and they usually get better.
I have the newly released Magellan Roademate 3000T. It works great. Cost $600 at Crutchfield and you may able to find $50 discount coupon on the internet. It has enough useful function, not the fancy one that I do not want. Only one concern about portable nav. is that u have to take it out when u park otherwise someone may break in to get it.

Your dealer can fix this problem - or at least fixed it in my QP with a software reload. However, the problem is that after this is fixed you will still have the world's worst navigation system in one of the world's coolest cars and it will frustrate you on a daily basis and detract from your ownership experience. If the nav function is important to you even a little bit go buy a new little portable device and forget you even have on in the car. Notice on this board that some people don't care for the gearbox, some find the grow to love it, some love it from the beginning; etc. But notice that not a single Maser owning human even attempts to defend the Nav unit. I heard that the even Nav unit designer's wife won't even sleep with him anymore.

I have always been curious about the nav system. I just can not figure out why it would tell me to take a surface road for 12 miles, rather than the highway which parallels the surface road even though I have it set to a highway configuration. I find it hard to believe that Maserati continues to use this system. Does anyone actually know what causes the problem? I am assuming it's not the CD, but the nav unit itself.

it's the out dated hardware. I contacted navteq for the issue and they said they couldn't do anything about it
