I understand that somewhere during MY 10 a change to this system was introduced to prevent "issues". Does anyone know the VIN# when this changed? I was set for an 09 but then read about this. TIA.

Wouldn't trust the VIN only way to really tell is to look inside oil filler cap and see if it's old style or new style variator. More info on post number 4 of this:

It's pretty easy to tell once you know what to look for.

I believe that engines built from October 2010 and later will have the variator fix in place.
Sept/Oct 2010 is only a guestimate. According to this site, the engine serial number where the variator is supposed to have been fixed is 148697 and higher.

Interestingly, I just found a mid-year 2010 production QP (clearly before Sept 2010) -- but the engine number series 153XXX. So it seems that some earlier 2010 production engines may have the fix from the factory.
