I am thinking of getting a Spyder as a daily driver. One of my problems is that I don't know a decent mechanic in San Jose area.

There is Ferrari/Maserati of Silicon Valley but I have had several BAD experiences with them and my Ferrari so I am a bit reluctant to use them.

I could try Maserati of San Francisco but they are an hours drive from here so anything that takes too long is a pain.

Any suggestions?

I agree with you on FMSV. I bite the bullet and make the drive to Marin. Car's been reliable enough that I make one trip every 6 months or so.

I stumbled across an independant in San Jose that maybe worth checking out.

The place is called Roselli Foreign Car Repair. Their address & phone number is:

390 Lincoln Ave
San Jose
CA 95126
(408) 297-0303

I popped in for a few minutes this morning on my way to work. It's a father (Ezio Roselli) and son (Robert Roselli) operation.

When I (briefly) visited this morning, they had a Merak, 456, 308 and a Mondial in for work. I also asked if they had the SD2/SD3 -- and they said 'yes'.

Beyond that, I've no other information.

Karl.

Here is another possibility. I found this shop/mechanic on Ferrari Chat. He said he
hasn't worked on many Masers, but he is familiar with all the modern Ferraris, so
that should suffice. He seems to get good references, although I haven't used him
yet. My Maser is 8 mos out of warranty, and while I had it serviced at FMOSF during
warranty, I will probably go local for the next service.

I'm still in the 'research' phase and so I'm a ways off from making a purchase... hence no first hand experience.

But as part of that research, I've been looking for local independants.

Thanks for the pointer to Grand Prix Motors.

For what its worth I just called Brian Crall in San Ramon - he has had good reviews on FerrariChat - but he hasn't/can't work on Maseratis. Has the ODB 2, but none of the Maserati software. Just left a message for Juan at Grand Prix. Anyone else has luck in the Bay Area finding an independent?

Thanks!

In an earlier thread, someone recommended an independent in Daly City--a place without the SP2, but trustworthy for other jobs, like fluids and brakes. I'm sure you can find it by searching the forum.

I have dealt with FMSV on a couple of occasions and did not have a bad experience. The service is expensive, but they've been willing to work on both labor and parts prices. They recently got a new service manager. My biggest beef with them is how slow everything is: expect the car to stay in the shop longer than originally anticipated and do not expect your calls to be returned immediately.

I've also traded e-mails with a service guy at FMSF and was very impressed with his knowledge, responsiveness, and level of attention. I will probably take my car up there sooner or later, but it's much more convenient for me to go to Redwood City because of Caltrain.

FMSV experience

I ended up taking my 2005 Coupe in for the 24k service as well as a few odds and ends (alignment, missing trident on the drivers side, new wiper blades). The new service manager (Henry Escano) was great. The service took a bit longer than expected (2 days rather than 1-1.5) but I got a loaner (Toyota Prius ;-) )so that wasn't a big deal. Total bill as $2100 (~$1700 for the 24k service; $300 for alignment). Out of warranty now, so I am still looking for an independent.

Roselli Foreign Car

I have used Roselli for the following services. I have been happy with all the work they (Robert) did for me, however as always your mileage may vary. They do have an SD3.

1. Pre-Purchase Inspection
2. Smog
3. Install of FD Springs, lowering 1", and alignment
4. Stainless steel brake line install with brake flush
5. New spark plug install

I would not hesitate taking my car there again in the future. The work mentioned above has all been performed within the last 1.5 years with items 3-5 being done in April of this year. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the responses.

do you think that they could service the clutch and other associated parts that could need to be changed. i think that the clutch still have enough life to it but it has now 20K (last measurement at 19k was 47% used).

I just stopped by and he said around 3500$ for the clutch. He seem very knowledgeable. I will bring my car there next week for the service.

The garage is full of Ferraris and Maseratis that all seem to have some major work done on the engine. He can also install the FD DEWM.

yes he said about $3500. My car is there for its service and the clutch can last a while longer.

So far they seem quite good they even recommended to wait to install the new clutch before doing FD DBW.

The only thing is not to be in hurry to get the car back. but Robert seem very knowledgeable about these cars.

Just got the car back from Roselli.

The prices are reasonable and the service quite good so thumbs up for me this time.

Its also a pleasure just to stop by and see all the high end cars being services there :)
