Uh, no. The MC in the US has very little to do with the MC Stradale.

The real MC Stradale is a 2-seater with rollcage (although rear seats became an option in later years), with carbon fiber bucket seats from the MC12, full alcantara interior, 240 lbs lighter and with the F1 transmission with shift times reduced to 60ms (instead of 100ms like my GT S F1).

It is seriously hardcore. Turning the ignition on sounds like a shotgun had gone off.

What you have in the US is not the MC Stradale but simply the MC!

As mentioned by the previous poster, the MC Stradale has the F1 tranny (the same system used in the Ferrari 599 GTO by the way) with shifts times of 60ms as opposed to 100ms from the normal F1 gearbox.

It is a very different car compared to the MC marketed in the US because the F1 tranny implies different weight distribution (more balanced) and ignition timings (more popping and cracking from the exhaust system from idle revs already and during downshifts!).

Furthermore the MC Stradale has got carbon ceramic brakes which means improved unsprung mass and of course track-duty brake performance!. The MC does not have these - hence the different nomenclature as recognized by Maserati.

Not sure why you folks in the US get dumbed-down versions of these cars... (even the GT SPORT is not available with the F1 tranny in the US and beleive me it is an elevated visceral experience to drive this thing with that tranny on it!)

And by the way, Since 2013 (calendar year) the MC Stradale is manufactured with 4 seats - just like in the GT SPORT.

Maserati Granturismo MC is the official name for the USA market. It's never been called MC Stradale base on the official website and window sticker. It's without the F1 transmission compare to the other european market and it weighs 4,350 lb which is the same weight for the Granturismo Sport in US too. On the other side, MC stradale is less than 4,000 lb and almost 200 lb less than the Granturismo Sport with the same F1 transmission. So you can see the difference here. Oh, we cannot get the carbon ceramic brakes here too. I can understand the cars in USA tend to be weigh more because of the more restricted safety standard but judged by the same weight compare to the Sport trim here and no F1 transmission and carbon ceramic brakes I would say the MC here is more like a cosmetic upgrade than the performance upgrade. But I like the MC looking so much and I really don't care about the performance for this car other than the style.

True, many of us would love to see the Stradale here in the USA. Likely the main reason that it's not here is that many in the USA don't seem to love the F-1 MC-Shift Transmission that comes in these amazing beasts... We absolutely love it but it seems that more Americans like the Auto Transmission. We will say however that Maserati has really stepped up the performance of the later GT4.7L Automatics so they do perform much better. Though, some of us will always love the F-1 Transmissions!

Just for kicks and since there aren't any pictures yet on this thread... here is a GT-MC from the USA that is loaded with performance products from FD. Sport Lowering Springs, Wheel Spacers, Full Larini Exhaust, etc...



We can import seats and many other components from the MC Stradale but it is very expensive and some items are nearly impossible to get right now.

I forgot about about the seats! I knew they didn't fully bring it here but I thought they still called them "MC Stradale." Guess I was wrong.

A little bit of an overstatement. Same engine (more HP and torque than the S for 2012MY), same exhaust system, same aero (upgraded splitter and rear diffuser, more downforce than the S), same single rate spring suspension (no skyhook here), same 300 km/hr top speed. And same shotgun sound at startup, throttle blips, pops, crackles, all at massive volume.

Aside from all of the above, you're right.

I don't believe it is an overstatement at all. Despite the similarities you mention, it is a very very different car from the automatic MC in the US.

All the changes mentioned by the various posters above result in a completely different feel. With 2 seats, a rollcage, carbon ceramic brakes it is definitely not a GT car. The driving modes are 'Auto', 'Sport' and 'Race'.

It's like comparing a Ferrari 430 and a Scuderia (the MC Stradale's tranny is based on the Scuderia's BTW, and has identical shift times).

If you say the MC has shotgun sound at startup, throttle blips, pops, crackles, all at massive volume then I must inform you that the MC Stradale has MORE shotgun sound at startup, MORE throttle blips, MORE pops, MORE crackles, all at MORE massive volume!!

It comes from the different engine programming (ECU) which is tuned to the racy F1 gearbox. Top speed is also 3 Km/h higher.

I recommend you to test drive one of these if you happen to be in Europe and you will instantly spot the difference to the MC (especially when driving in MANUAL-RACE/SPORT mode).

It is a more visceral experience to drive the MC Stradale.

Very very different? because of seats and rollcage, none of which will help a lap time? um kay.

Look, the stradale is 220 lbs lighter and has the f1 tranny. That's about it. Carbon ceramic brakes aren't much of an upgrade until lap 8 or 10 at the track.

As for Race mode, that just activates to 60ms shifts and opens up the exhaust bypass valves at all RPMs. In the US MC, the sport-manual mode opens up the exhaust bypass valves at all RPMs also, for identical sound.

If I wanted a real track car, I'd get a Nissan gtr, not a Maserati.

Based on your post, it is clear that you have driven the US MC in manual-sport mode and the Stradale (otherwise your subjective comparisons have no basis).

Please explain to me how two cars (the US MC and the Stradale), both with the same engine, same exhaust, same power, and same ability to open up the exhaust valves at all RPM, can sound different due to ECU. Does the different ECU magically pump more volume of air through the exhaust, without adding horsepower? Also, what is your source for the different ECU in the Stradale?

I've heard both cars exhaust on youtube, and they sound identical to my ears.

My Grigio Lava. Btw, I've driven both cars (European and American version) and they sound the same to me... I'm not sure Maserati still makes the European 2 seat version anymore, the one I drove was identical to the US version (except of course for brakes and F1 transmission).

This is mine...US version MC but I tried to bring it as close as possible to the MC Stradale:


Upgrades:


Larini Sport Cats & Larini X-pipes that on my opinion provide even more pops and crackles than the MC Stradale; those upgrades also give more horsepower;
FD's ECM Performance Chip;
FD's DBW Module;
High Performance Air Filter;
Original MC Stradale's decals;
West Wind European floor mats.


I have never driven an MC Stradale so I cannot say if there is much difference, but I can def say the ECM, DBW and Larini mods take the MC to a new level, probably very close to the Stradale.

Nice, thanks for the pics guys, and for the education on the US market MC vs MC stradale ROW cars.

Regardless of performance differences, I think the USA MC cars are worth the price of admission alone for the different aero bodywork and rear exhaust setup. It's just too sexy.

Has anyone noticed that the Stradale looks quite a bit lower, especially in the rear, than the US MC cars?

According to Maserati.com, the Stradale and the US MC are both 10mm lower than the GTS. Makes sense, considering they both have the same sport suspension (no skyhook).
