Msp

MSP will protect you from yourself. I drive with it on 99% of the time. It protects you from spinning out in a situation where you are on the edge.

it shows when its off. msp with a line through it. you have to hold for a couple of seconds...they don't want it disabled in error i guess...

Tuning the MSP

Is there a way to adjust the MSP?
I would like to keep it on, but have it intrude less on the car.

I drive with MSP off 95% of the time. It steps in way to early in my opinion for spirited driving. Normally only run it for a safty margin when running hard in the rain. Lately I have been turningit off in the rain too and the car is so well balanced and love to drift in the rain. Way to much fun.

Warning- I wrecked a Z06 Vette because of the computer so I do not trust them doing the thinking for you. M3 passed me on my island after I made a stop at the store. I forgot to turn it off. I jumped on the M3 and set him up for a pass on a down hill sweeper. I blew by him and ran to about over 100.
I had to make a 90 degree turn ahead so I jumped on the brakes and saw the M3 behind me was a little short on brakes and tires and was not going to slow down like I could. I wanted to give him some extra room so he woudl not rear end me so I decided to take the corner hot and slide it a bit. I went to turn and nothing. I was full wheel lock left and she still went straight as an arrow. I hit a 4X4 stop sign and could not figure out why the car would not turn. Computer on!!!!! I was braking while turning and it did not turn at all.
Computer used all left brakes to keep the car staright and I wanted it to slide a bit. I was almost stopped at that point. I could have made that corner at that speed in my truck with 35" tires and a 6" lift. I do not trust the computer.

Learn how your car handles and get a feel for it. Most people get in trouble in high powered exotics because of all the power. Squeeze the throttle on slowly. Smooth is fast and keeps you out of trouble. Be safe out there.

I too wish there were something intermediate or adjustable about the MSP. I track the car so know how to drive with it off but it very useful in the rain and for most street driving, etc. Maybe Jeff at FD can come up with an adjustabele version...

As far as I know, the MSP on Quattroporte's at least, adjusts to intrude less when sport mode is switched on. It still interrupts a bit more than Id like, but its not bad, its more for keeping the wheels from spinning, I can still slide the car slightly with it on. Regardless, its much less intrusive than the system found on Mercedes and most other cars so I cant complain.

As a word of warning, the Z06 and other Vette's have a substantially archaic software design for their stability program, it was designed in the 80's and its still the same today. Same counts for the Viper.

Electronic stability programs have evolved A LOT since the 80's, so much that the one used by Mercedes in their AMG cars can pretty much allow you to play around as much as you want. Another example is the software in the recent Ferrari models, they can do just about anything and match your driving style. I think TopGear had an episode related to that, but I'm not sure.

The MSP in my GS is also very advanced and allows me to make a U-turn without interfering, but when it engages it feels like a sledge hammer (I mean that it takes too much control of the car).

I know that you can make MSP less involved if you have an SD3 device and know how to make such change in the software. Its also available in the new GranTurismo, when buying the MC Corsa package, you can tell them how you want the MSP and related functions to work.

So is there anyway to know MSP is on and working? I got my 04 coupe not to long ago and have never been able to tell if it's on. Just didn't know if the MSP light should be on until the MSP/ button is pressed.

MSP is on by default and disabled by holding the button down until you see the indicator on the dash... to test it? Just hammer the gas pedal in a safe environment and the tires will either spin or be caught by the MSP.

Experienced driver (from a performance driving point of view) are likely to not use MSP. However, as others have mentioned, it can definitely save your bacon if you make a mistake or lose concentration for a moment in bad weather.

Hey guys. On my 04 coupe cambo, the MSP with a line through it comes on every so often and won't go off. I dont hit the button at all until it comes on in order to turn the MSP back on. Is there a way to make the MSP turn back on? Also, does anybody know why this be happening? Thanks guys.

I'm curious to see this answer also, mine is doing the same thing, but i think its because I sort of wrecked it on the front left. May have bent something? Wreck was caused partially by too much speed, but I think MORE so by the msp being on! I was making a hard right turn and the car only went straight!! Like Island Maser described...

Sounds like the ECU is turning MSP off due to a problem, probably something detected by one of the sensors (so one of them could be just dirty and needs cleaning or one is defective). It could be a few other things, like cables damaged by water, etc.

I just bought a '05 Spyder. When I test drove it all lights were off.
After the car got delivered couple of weeks later the MSP with the line through it was on from day one and I can't turn (the MSP) it on again(so the light on the dash goes off). I held down the button for a few seconds, disconnected the battery for a few days, etc. No dice- the MSP with a line through it as well as the msp button on the console stay lit up. The only thing I'm aware of that happened in shipping was that the battery died an I had to charge it. Oh and I also put in a new CC shifter assembly because the car had the incorrect one. I thought it may be the new shifter but after I put the wrong one back in the light stayed on. Is there a fuse for the MSP that might have blown? a relay maybe?

You should go to your mechanic/dealer and ask them to hook up the car to a diagnostic device (SD2, SD3, Diagnosi, etc) and see the error code that disabled MSP.

It could be something fairly simple, like one of the MSP sensors gone bad.

I am planning to go this week for a key programming. I'm going to ask them to pull the codes while they are at it.
What about a blown fuse or loose/bad relay?
Where are they located? I can't find it in the book..

Sorry, I don't know about the MSP specifically. It is rather rare to have a blown fuse (which implies that there is another problem that caused the fuse to blow). Personally I've never had a blown fuse.

There are 2-3 different fuse boxes, the main one is under the passenger foot rest under the dashboard. Another is at the rear boot, right side, close to the battery compartment.

It is possible that this error existed before you got the car. The seller cleared the codes, which means it will take some time for the car to re-run the tests and through the error again, so the time passed after you had the car delivered and the error is back again.

There are several kinds of errors. Some are hidden, the car hasn't decided if it should consider them as a problem yet. Some are temporary (reset the battery and they go away) and some are permanent and won't go away unless you clear them via the OBD port.

The errors escalate, depending on the seriousness. Some will start as hidden and become temporary and eventually remain as permanent.

I can't be sure what you've got in your hands, the most definitive way is to hook it up to a diagnostic device and read the code.

The Viper didn't have stability control until 2013, you're saying they used 1980s software in a 2013 car?

They sure are good folks.
They cut me a deal on the key- not as rad as yours but still a great deal.
Unfortunately they had no time to pull the codes for MSP light today.
I'll make another appointment later.
