I am in the market for a QP or a GT and I was wondering if there is an idea as to how the wiggle room is with negotiating prices for a new vehicle... Whether to purchase or lease?

Also does anyone have any input on which they like better the QP or GT, i realize they are 2 pretty different vehicles... seeing as one is a coup and one is a sedan.... but i would appreciate any input. Thanks again.

Your best bet is to buy a 2008 slightly used car with say 1,500 miles or less. I just did that and saved over $28,000 (based on sticker) on a Gran Turismo on eBay. No one can advise you whether to get a 2 door or 4 door-it depends on your needs, but the 2 door does have 2 adequate rear seats!

Actually they are quite similar under the skin. I think the bigger question is do you need/want rear doors?

don't need them... its actualy for my parents... 3 kids in college and beyond so dont really need them... but they do like going places with other people sometimes.... but its mostly for them 2.... so dont need them, but like anyone with a coup a backseat can come in handy sometimes...

also not sure if anyone has any experience with this... they have been driving SUV's for the past 8-10 years..... will it be hard to adjust to a coup you think? a short test driving probably wont help much?

If they are not used to a 2-door GT car, they may be better off with the 4 door! Probably more comfortable and better views whilst driving.

Is this something your parents want? For example, my dad is a car nut, but he is obviously from a different generation than I and he wouldn't know what to do with a Modern Maserati. Plus, he would have a heart attack over the maintenance bills.

I don't think age has anything to do with this. I will be 64 tomorrow and drive my Mas. like I was 34. I have come from a Jaguar XKR and before that a DB9 but then again I was brought up loving motor racing and driving fast GT cars. I would not own a sports utility if it was free, but that's me.

I do think that if you are not used to driving an Aston or Maserati and you are somewhat elderley it will not be easy and you probably won't get the great enjoyment out of the car that we do! Your parents need to test drive this type of car for at least 30 to 45 minutes!

Well they are not driving enthusiasts by any means... they are getting the car because they like the way it looks... they called me today and told me they went to the dealership and liked both cars and for me to help them decide...

You say the maintanence costs are high... i'm sure they have no idea what they are getting themselves into... as either do i.... Aside from warranty what other maintanence costs are there? and generally what do they run?

My suggestion, given the things you mention above is to go for a QP automatic, ideally 2008 with 2~3 years worth of warranty left.

The biggest bills for us Maserati owners recently have come from clutch replacement and transmission pump breakdowns, both of which would not be a problem with a QP automatic.

Everyone keeps mentioning to get a used or slightly used 08... are used Maserati's that underpriced? or do they lose their value that quickly that it is really worth it?

is it better to lease a new car if it isn't going to be driven too many miles??

Nooro, it is not about Maseratis being underpriced. Maybe you haven't noticed but there is a global financial crisis going on with hundreds of thousands of redundancies, companies going bankrupt and governments' spending out of control.

In this scenario, buying a new car at sticker price is not the smartest move

Either get a new one with a hefty discount or a slightly used one.

I don't think you'll find dealers publicising their new car discounts, as Maserati (or any other company) wouldn't be too happy with those dealers, as it may damage their image.

You'd be much better off spending half a day calling up a few dealers around where you live and I am sure they'll offer you a deal.

Go to the dealer's internet site - find an '08 listed as used but with less than 500 miles. It's a car he has "punched." You should be able to get a BIG discount.

As I understand it, it is an essentially new car that the dealer has placed into "used" inventory because of cash incentives from Maserati - so they have more wiggle room on the price to move inventory. Don't know any more than that.

Also usually means that the dealer started the warranty at that time meaning if the car was sold to you say three months after it was punched, you would have 3 years and 9 months warranty insread of 4 years.
