Hi there. I drive a 2013 Maserati Gran Turismo S MC Line. Had some issues with the car the other day on the transmission lines and fluids had to tow her to a workshop. In a day or two had that sorted and repaired. Unfortunately, as I went to pick up the car, the car will not start up. Battery has been checked and there are no issues. All the warning light comes on as usual when key ignition is turned to ‘on’, however when I’m about to start the ignition nothing happens and ignition becomes stuck (no friction/pressure as i turn the key to start). I have to turn key back to ‘off’ pull the key out and try again but nothing seems to work. All the electronics works fine its just the last turn of the key which usually ignites the car and starts. I’ve checked the maserati code and that doesn’t seem to be the issue. Its either the alternator, starter or perhaps the ignition mechanism. Please, Any advice on this? Would appreciate your help and advices if anyone has some knowledge or experience on this. There’s no maserati dealers here in my country as the car was imported from uk hence its quite difficult for me to identify and troubleshoot the issue.. thanks
Well I guess it depends on what the issues you had with the lines and fluids....
I assume that the car must have been started after they were sorted and repaired, I'd rather expect whoever did the work to be sorting this out for you as it rather feels like they've not finished the job
However, the ignition switches have been known to fail, although not that often, but that would match your symptoms.
Thanks for the info. Do you see any other possible issues I should look into aside from the ignition switches? Issues on the lines basically they were worn out and one of the pipes had a leak which resulted to the transmission fluid being drained almost completely. This then put a stop to the car with warning ‘gear unavailable, transmission fluid low’. So towed it to the shop, they repaired the leak etc. Repairs were;
Troubleshooting
new Pressure hose
Labour to replace broken hose
full synthetic hydraulic fluid replacement plus bleeding
motul ATF VI transmission fluid.
So best thing is to order the parts? Let me know if I have to consider other possibilities/causes such as the ignition switches please.
Appreciate the help buddy

Basically before the car broke down, the car came to a stop as dashboard warning displayed ‘transmission fluid low, gear not available’ which the transmission fluid is just drained completely. I’ve encountered this before on the hoses wearing out and in this case, leak at the undercarriage too. So the repairs carried out above pretty much sorted the leak and stuff.
But now its the question of the car not starting up. They mentioned they cant really do much as they dont really deal with cars like this so they dont want to be held liable i presume. They just informed me it should either be the starter mechanism as they key wont turn fully in the ignition - start up, and maybe alternator/immobilizor issue. All the electronics seems fine, unlocking/locking, radio functions, lights. Its just the last turn (to start the car) when the key is in the ignition, nothing happens after you try to start it. I notice after a failed attempt keys goes back to ‘on’ and you try to turn again, it gets blocked from attempting to turn the key again hence to start back from the beginning.
Do you have any advices which parts I should look into to find out the causes? Thanks guys hope I can get some ideas and further knowledge on this 🙏🏼
Don’t order parts until you know what part or it will just get more complicated. It seems the shop messed something up if it could start before they messed with it and now it will not start.
the only things I can think of is the Parking lockout (which detects the shifter is in P to start) or something wrong with the security immobilizer.
I hope the usual has been checked: new battery, check starter and all relays and fuses
there is no Maserati dealer you said, is there a Ferrari shop you can go to?
I concur .. although it’s not “impossible” for the starter, or the ignition switch to suddenly fail, or, the battery ( in spite of sufficient power for all lights, radio, etc to function ok ) not having enough power to turn over the engine, the coincidence of that happening right after the transmission work seems to be just too much of a coincidence, so I would also suspect something that caused the parking position sensor to misread in which gear the car is, or security system / immobilizer impacted by something that wasn’t reset properly .
But try the “Italian reboot“ ; it can’t hurt ; disconnect the negative battery cable, wait five minutes, reconnect it , and then see if it makes any difference when you try to start the car .
Also, don’t assume that just because the voltage reads ok on the battery, it has enough cranking power ; the battery needs to be load tested to assure it has sufficient cranking amps in addition to voltage, so may be worth recharging it fully ( preferably removed from the car, but should be ok even in ) and then and then try it again.
Look like your line from the valve block assembly to your clutch actuator burst...This is a F1 car and needs clutch pressure in order to start.. I imagine your shop didn't bleed the system as you need software to do it correctly....Jason
And there’s the reason why this forum without Jason would have an immense technical knowledge and guidance gap .. who else would know something that esoteric ?! I’d be willing to bet 90 % of the Maserati dealers service departments have no clue about that ..
Part of the reason I felt okay buying a used Maserati was because I researched this forum and saw so many of his posts and thought “alright, we got a champ on this team. Let’s buy it”
Yes the key does turn to the final position, but nothing happens and key goes back to MAR. If I try to turn the key again to start (From MAR) it won't as it feels blocked. I basically have to remove the key and start from the beginning. Hope this clarified. I'll try to take some photos when I visit her at the shop over the next few days. Thank you
I might have missed something there....I didn't see the deal with the key...Is the ground strap hooked back up on the bellhousing? That would probably get unhooked to replace that line....Jason
Try disconnecting the negative battery cable and wait a few minutes. That hasn't happened to my qp. But it always happens to my Freightliner Cascadia whenever I'm getting fuel in Weed, Ca. Best of luck
