Maserati Bora Advice Needed !

2834 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  bundas
I recently ran across a 1974 Maserati Bora in need of a fair amount of restoration. Given the condition of the car, the price seems very reasonable. The car has not been run in 5 years but seems to be at least visually in decent condition and has been stored properly (little to no rust). Does anyone have any experience restoring a Bora ? What type of costs are involved ?

I'm really sorry I can't help you more on this, but here are some links:

This one is specifically on the 74 Bora
The "Maserati Bora Register"

I'd recommend trying to email someone on that last site to see if they can give you some more specific information. The first site isn't exactly what you're looking for and is dated 2004, but it might help you with the purchase. You could try google'ing Maserati clubs and attempt to find someone on those too.

Hope you find what you're looking for; wish I could help you more. It's awesome that you have a chance to get your hands on that. Good luck!
Great and thanks for the help !
The Bora was put up for auction. The guide estimate was around GBP 5000. I guess someone wanted it badly as the auction price was over GBP 12,000.

Wow, that is a hefty price tag compared to the estimate. How much work is going to be needed to restore the car?

Hey Boxer, this is rocco. I originally thought the name Danilo was taken for some reason. Anyway, sorry to hear that your deal fell through. Unforunately it happens, especially with a nicer car. Keep at it though.

(Speaking of which, does anyone know if there is a way I can delete/remove that account in case someone else wants to try to register for it?)
bora

boxer, some angle must be watching over you. a bora in need is a major money pit. i fell in to one myself. been working on the thing for more than two years. don't ask about $$$, i can tell you it is a a $ night monster
My guess was that it would take $5-10k to get into into decent driving condition and another $10k to bring it up to a condition 1 car. Sounds like I might have been a bit low on my estimates.
bora bora

drove my restored bora for the first time in about three years, after driving the merak SS around bora was a real experience. sound, i was in heaven, power, oh! boy! bank account, oh boy!! car 37000 repair about the same $$
