LoJack anyone?

Last week I received a call from my insurance company saying that they wanted to install one of this units in 5 of my cars... a Jaguar S-Type, a GMC Yukon, a Jeep Cherokee, a BMW 530i and the Maserati.

I cannot say that car-jacking in El Salvador has been a problem but as in many other countries there is always a chance... so they offered to install the devices for free and as an additional incentive they also offered to lower my deductible (participation) in case any of my cars was stolen from 20% to only 5%

Yesterday I sent the Jaguar in, they kept it for 3 hours and installed the device, the car is working fine... but there are some issues that bother me about sending in my baby...

First issue is that they do not tell me where they install the device, I want no caveman disassembling my Avorio/Cuoio dashboard to hide the device and leaving their "dirty paws" printed in them.

Second issue is that they have to take power for the unit and I'm afraid they take the power from the wrong place.

Third issue is that I have to leave the car with them... call me crazy but I never leave my car alone not even when going in for service... I drive my car in and I stay in the shop the whole time watching what they do to it. In case a road test is needed I'm the one that drives it.

My question is; have any of you heard of this system and if so... have any of you installed one of these devices in your Masers? Any problems? What do you guys’ advice?

Thanks in advance for you kind help!

I would share your concerns.

The device is very popular here in the US, and is often pushed / installed by the dealers.

Part of their policy is to never tell anyone, even the owner, where the device gets installed.

Can you work it out with your insurance so that your dealer (or whoever works on your Maser on a regular basis) is the one to install it?

If not I'd probably let them do the other 4 cars and take the discount there.

my sister recently had one installed in her lexus, she had the same concern but they told her it was done from underneath the car. It is anyone's guess where that thing could be mounted, yet if I were the tech at the dealership there is no stopping me :)))
I had a Lojack installed in a SL500. They placed it beneath the drivers seat. Done by the dealer and have never had a problem in 3 years.
