So this image / alert showed up today .

Font Gas Display device Gadget Temperature

I guess it’s a burned out bulb ? And the only way to find out which one is to plug in the scanner ( the fairly inexpensive one recommended by a few members here ) which hopefully will point me to what needs to be replaced ?

You don't need a scanner for that..Walk around the car with the parking lights on for starters..Look for a bulb totally out or one that looks dim...Most likely a parking light bulb in the front headlight assembly...Jason
Thanks, I was thinking of waiting until dusk to do that , as well as checking all other lights including the brake and reverse lights ( well, my wife would have to do the checking of those …and I have to resist the urge to “test“ the reverse when she’s behind the car…Juuust kidding !! 😜 ) but got sidetracked and forgot all about it . Will check it out tomorrow morning though.

Checked ALL lights this morning and at all settings ; parking lights, turn signal lights, auto setting, headlights at low and high beams, the beads lights in the headlight assembly, brake lights, reverse lights etc. All working ; burned out or dim bulbs anywhere . However, the license plate lights are all out ( at every setting ). So it seems that’s what triggered the lights alert 🤔. And in typical Maserati electronics fashion that alert is no longer on ..😐. WTH ?

Great, thank you sir ! That saves me a bunch of searching ..
And when I fired it up to drive off to work , the alert light came on again, but with a difference ..for a brief moment ( no more than two seconds ) at the top of the screen it read : “ check plate lights “ , and then it vanished just as quickly as it appeared, and only the alert icon stayed on. I call that the Brigadoon syndrome ( those of you old enough will get the reference ) ;)
Ordering them now ..

WTF ! ( and by that I don't mean Wow That's Fantastic 😛)
Started the car this morning, no alert icon on the screen, drove 15 minutes to work, no alert icon appearing , parked it , shut off the engine, still nothing.. turned on the key just to the all systems on , went to look at the plate lights and they were ON ! Switched the lights dial to the various modes, just like I did the other day when the plate had no lights, and it all works . Fired up the engine, did the whole routine all over, and the lights are on. Again, WTF ?!

Lucky the lights I ordered were only $ 20 ( ok, $ 27 with shipping ..) so I'll keep them until the next time when they REALLY burn out, and not just a bizarre Maserati electronic gremlin like it seems to have been this time..

Could be a lil oxidation/corrosion between the bulbs and the contact/electrical surfaces. Usually just removing the bulb to break contact and re-installing is sufficient. Apply a lil dielectric grease to the bulb/contact surfaces if you want to prevent a future occurrence.
Thanks, will do that this weekend. In most cases I use CRC electronic cleaner spray for those things so we’ll see if that is enough , and if not, dielectric grease it shall be 😉👍

Ok, so I was going to clean the contacts today ..removed the two screws and thought the lights cover plate would easily come out with just a gentle nudge off of its spot . No such luck, so I started to pull on it with more force..still not budging, it’s as if the seal around it is superglued on . So I tried the other side, and the same result ! How do I pry that cover off without scratching or damaging something or another ? 🤔

For the plate lights? They slide and come out....
C

Yes those lights , but I’m not talking about the bulbs..it’s the plastic cover that should practically fall in your hands when you remove the two screws which hold it in place . I even watched a video this morning on that , and the moment the guy unscrewed those , the cover came right off , changing the light bulb ( I hear a joke coming here , at my expense ;) ..) is a piece of cake . I just don’t understand why those covers are so solidly frozen in place that they won’t budge . I tried to wiggle them , but it seems short of getting a knife blade in there to pry them off they’re not moving at all. I’m going to have another cup of strong coffee this morning and get back at it ..

I still find it incredible that neither one of the covers will budge. Inexplicable . ( lol, no the PO didn’t glue anything , I talked to him yesterday ..he’s a very good friend of mine ). My hesitation to sticking a knife blade in there to pry them away is not about scratching the paint next to the seals ( I can protect that with some cardboard ) as much as it is damaging the seals or cracking that plastic cover ..and then I have to order new ones and wait for them ..not that we’re about to see any rain around here where moisture can get into the lights / contacts and cause even more problems.. Eh, I’ll wait for the new lights to arrive and then use a hammer an chisel 🤪. This has to take the spot for the most bizarre trouble with what has to be the simplest thing to do on this car ..two friggin’ screws are the only thing holding that thing in place ! 🙄😠

If you mean the wring behind the small trunk wall ( driver side ) cover plate, I removed that this morning, and to the naked eye, all insulation looks intact, there is no sign of any corrosion, etc. Not sure if that by itself is enough reassurance that there is no problem ( a short ) with that wiring, but that's the best I can do , visually, for now..

Ok, now I’m not a happy camper : ordered the lights ( from Hoen ) on August 18. I still have not received them, and although I did get a confirmation with an order number ( from 2checkout, the payment source they use ) there was no follow re the shipping .. no tracking number or even a mention it’s being sent . So I emailed them an inquiry, to which there hasn’t been a response for five days . Today I called the number they list for customer support ( called a few times. ). It gets a fast busy signal right away , indicative of a non working or discontinued number . Not that I care about $ 27 but it’s the principle of the matter , something seems off here ..

Yeah, they used to be way better than that.... If you don't get them soon, I'll send you a few, Dan.
That would be awesome, very kind of you !! 😊(y) Let me see what I can do in the next couple of days and if still no response from them I’ll send you a DM .

Ok, with the aid of a trim removal plastic tool I was able to pry the lights cover plates out of their spot. The bulbs look fine, the wire is intact, glass is very clear ( there no sign of a “burn“ anywhere ) . The other insulated wires and contacts to the bulbs also look to be in great shape, like new. Nonetheless, I took the bulbs out, sprayed some electrical cleaner on the contact points anyway and we’ll see what that does, if anything .. However, lights have been working fine since last week so we‘ll see how it goes ..

It’s baaaaack .. the license plate lights alert icon is on again ( after more than two months of being just fine ) and the lights themselves are out as well. I give up.. I’m not spending who knows how much $$$ for some shop to troubleshoot this issue for hours or days only to tell me after a trial and error marathon that they can’t find the problem.. :( So I’ll just live with the icon on, until it goes away again .. and it will .

The good news is stuff like this generally gets worse and is easier to fix then...J
So…in which way does it get worse, which could make it easier to better identify where along all those circuits the problem is ? You mean something other than the license plate lights can be impacted by this eventually ? ( So far, every single one of these tail lights works perfectly, checked all those out a few times )

The icon on the dashboard shows the light bulb alert, but right above it ( and just briefly ) when it first comes on, it specifically reads license plate lights .

I have replaced the bulbs. I believe they are conventional, but I'll check the order and post later today after I get home..
