I'm guessing you have a car with the primary CAT welded into the headers/downpipe. Is that the one that failed? (and not one of the secondary CATs)

You can get cheap original parts from various places, like Eurospares (which is in the UK and will cost a lot to ship to the US, but doesn't hurt to ask them, or Ricambi America which is in the US).

Don't touch the primary CATs (the ones with the O2 sensors), otherwise you'll go through hell with CEL errors. If this is about the secondary CATs then most people just remove them for the extra sound you can release. I'm using Larini and their quality is SUPERB.

Brian - sorry to hear of your problem. Did it simply fail or what?

The Quattroporte model does not have secondary cats so you're safe to replace them with the Larini set: Sportcats Larini Systems - Sport Cats for Maserati Quattroporte (4.2L Automatica)

We now have them available and in stock for all Duoselect and Automatica Models!

In regards to the 4200 series that have both primary and secondary cats... it is worth noting that several of our customers have had luck replacing the front cats while still avoiding CEL issues. It just took a bit of work to identify all the pieces of the puzzle that need to be just right!

Feel free to call or email with any questions, we're here to help!

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

Your lucky that you only had one of your cats went bad. I had both my cats went bad about a year ago, and I ended up having them rebuilt for $300 a piece. Dealer said that they came received the cats as good as new and that the materials used to rebuild it seemed better than oem.

Hmmm, Brian are you feeling lucky?

I originally purchased the weld on sport cats from formula dynamics, but I could not find anyone here that was willing to install them, which is why I looked for other alternatives. At the end of the day Smith Brothers rebuilt the Catalytic Converter on my car. Catalytic Converters, Smith Brothers

Good Luck

Just installed a pair of Larini Sport Cats from Formula Dynamics on Brandon's car. I have installed Larini systems on Ferraris as well, they are extremely well made. Jeff at Formula Dynamics is great. Thanks

I just got the sport cats put on my QP and picked it up this afternoon.... WHOO HOO!!!! I love them!!! The main reason I did this was for power, I was not looking for actual noise, but I have to say.... IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!! Not too much louder at idle and at highway speeds there is no drone, just pure music, when I open the windows, I can actually hear the exhaust now, I had the factory X-pipe and Larini cans and I thought it was perfect before, but now that I put these on, they sound amazing! Not obnoxious at all, just pure SEX on wheels! I highly recommend it for those looking to free up some extra power in the 2000-3000 rpm range, the car feels lighter already, and more responsive, beautiful sound, blurps on demand/downshifts, not annoying one bit at all, definitely sounds racier and higher pitched at higher rpms, lets you know there is a beast under the hood, not a rough neck beast, but a refined, hand made italian beast.. Just totally exceeded my expectations, and I would like to thank Jeff at formula dynamics, and Joe, Luigi, and Anthony from Universal Autosports in Glen Cove, NY for doing a great job on the install! These guys are all the best in the industry for Maserati!
Thanks, and I am going to post a video and full report soon, as I have not had a chance to drive it for more than an hour on the way home, the loooong way I took... Just awesome, not to mention it looks like jewelry under the car... Belissima
