Ipod install with existing autochanger?

2484 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  maserati of minneapolis
Some time back I successfully got my Ipod connected to the 4200 Coupe system using a Dension ICE Link. I did this by using a port on the back of the amp unit in the arm-rest. I have just changed my car to an '05 model that has a CD autochanger. I seem to remember the back of the amp has two imput ports. Has anyone tried connecting a Dension ICE Link into the other port alongside the existing autochanger? If so, does it work? Do you get another option ie the display allows two 'autochangers?'

There are 3 mini iso cavities. C3 is the CD changer and I believe the one you're referring to, C2, has something to do with the GSM phone, microphone input. Connector configurations are diff. on all 3.
Thanks haha, that all makes sense. In my last car I had bluetooth hands free phone kit installed - the guy used the "c2" port to connect the phone to which allowed the call to come through the speakers. I guess it's ipod OR changer then!

You need the Dension Blaupunkt version. It will have a blue plug on the end and ignore the spare fly-lead. Simply plug in and it should work.
Is there a pinout of the c2 connector (phone mic/GSM etc)?

tried mucking with it but none seemed to work. perhaps the C2 conn. is used for different purposes.
Dension has a new system that looks pretty neat. It connects inline of the changer but has a toggle button to allow the changer or ipod and adds an aux. Looks very cool.

The Link Gateway4000:

thanks guys,

but do you know who to get it.

i contacted the US office and they said that they don't sell the products.

any other stores or website to get it

Willie

i even logged onto the world website and they don't have a US dealer.
Has anybody successfully installed an iPod to a QP? I don' t have a CD changer (the slot is under the steering column).

How has the Dension kit been for you guys? I seem to remember it working differently with the Masers since their CD changers are 5 disc rather than the standard 6, and that changed some workings of the Dension interface. Any comments on this?

According to my local shops (yes plural) the Dension unit for Maserati is no longer available. Dension is in the process of being aquired by DICE, who may eventually offer a unit for Maserati.

In the meantime I'm awaiting the introduction of a unit from another manufacturer. I'll let you know what transpires.
Dear Mark,

I've been quite happy with the Dension unit. Though far from perfect i.e. the NIT doesn't always know the IPOD is there, the disk change buttons don't always execute the intended manuever, etc., the fidelity is much superior to that of the FM broadcast type units. As you may know, the user must assign numbers 1-5 as the first character of the name of their playlists. For example, mine is, "1Rock," "2Jazz," and so on. The Dension Unit makes the NIT think that the first five playlists on the IPOD are the 5 discs in the CD changer. You cannot access any additional features that the Dension apparently has, however. For example, the Dension has a pre-amp of sorts, so that the IPOD play volume can be equalized with that of other source material. Alas, you cannot reach the Dension menu or features to my knowledge. So, it's pretty basic but I have no regrets.
Thanks for the review Frankie. I'm still a bit amazed that ipod car integration hasn't come a bit further, but maybe I'm just not paying enough attention.
