Hey guys... Only one thing holding me back from buying a 2002 GT Coupe...insurance! I have been searching all day for a decent quote but many companies won't even insure me because i will be using it as a daily driver (10-15K miles a year). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance..

Yikes!

My insurance agent had me hooked up with Allied Insurance. Now I get the Maserati and she tells me it will be more than my other cars combined. I shopped around and found out that Geico would do all my cars incl the Maserati for half of what Allied wanted. My agent understood and wished me the best.

It pays to shop around. BTW, everyone I called didn't have the Maserati ranked but had to ask their specialist for a quote.

I pay $3200 for an 04 Maserati, 02 Toyota Tundra and 97 Mitsubishi Galant.

I'm in SoCal and had outrageous quotes for Maserati insurance before I bought it but a few Porsche owners pointed me to AAA. I was able to get insurance for the 02 CC for about $1100 a year and I drive it as a daily driver (15k miles per year). My total annual insurance is $4600 with AAA which is comparable to Mercury Insurance except for the Maserati. There are 4 drivers in my family and 5 cars (BMW 850, Maserati, BMW 325, Lexus SUV, and Scion TC)

AAA Insurance Works Well

I have had AAA since I was 16 years old. I do pay a bit for the Maserati but I have very high limits on everything. For what it's worth, I was quoted the exact same amount for a Porsche C4S so no real negative for the Maserati. I use the Maserati as my daily driver (20K miles since June '03) and the insurance knows about the miles I drive - no problems getting the coverage.

One way to keep the cost down is up your deductibles. I went with $2000 on theft and $1000 on collision. Figure Maserati will be a tough car to steal without having a key and who wants to steal a car that would be spotted quickly as so few around. They like stealing the Honda's and Toyota's and cars that are a dime a dozen and can be quickly stripped and sold for parts and I doubt there is much of a market for Maserati parts. And figure since I have not had an accident in over 20 years it will be someone else who hits me and deductible will not apply anyway. I am paying about $2,200 and for living in MA that is pretty low. Especially compared to the $3300 I pay for my 17 year old daughters 1993 jeep

Insurance

I only have coverage for low mileage (less than 5k a year) and a high deductible ($4000) but given that, I pay $1100 for my Maserati Spyder. Not sure if I could have done better with another insurance carrier, but the one I use gives you back 40% of your premium if you don't have a claim for 2 years.

Like others have said, I use a $2000 deductible for the same reasons stated. Don't know if that high a deductible is acceptable to your loan company if you plan on financing the car. I would check it out first. Since I wrpte a check, the risk is on me but I wouldn't turn in a claim anyway unless the damage was major.

GEICO

Geico insured mine for only $1100 per year - it is our third car and I told them I would be driving it to work 1-2 times per week. A daily driver would have increased the amount by about $150. I live in Chicago, and rates generally are very high here, but I found it interesting that my rate for the Maser is the same for my other non-daily driver (a VW Passat GLX). Makes no sense to me.

My deducts are 500/500.

GEICO did tell me, however, that the insurance required special underwriting as the Maser was not in their system - they were able to do the underwriting in about 15 minutes though.

They also told me that they would not have offered insurance on this car except that I was in the extra safe drivers group.

Insurance

I could only find one carrier the day I bought my Maser: Allstate. After paying through the nose for a few months ($4.5K annualized), I got the annual rate down to $2.1K with Chubb & have been satisfied ever since. The policy has an agreed value (i.e. no depreciation debate if it is totaled).

Mmm, makes the quote on 'Rati not so bad, as a C4S costs more.
