Hi forum, I'd like to remove my instrument cluster so I can properly fix an annoying squeak coming from the plastic trim. Does anyone have any experience removing and reinstalling the cluster without triggering some electrical issue requiring a dealership visit? I'd like to remove the cluster entirely (including the electrical connections) but want to make sure the car won't freak out (thought I read somewhere this might happen).

Thanks!

It's pretty simple on the electrical side as the cluster has just a single connector, there shouldn't be much worry to disconnect it or reconnect it so long as the key is off. As to getting to the screws, it's a bit more work, the accent trim piece (wood) needs to come off, the electrical switch for the headlights and perhaps a few more pieces to get access to all the screws.

Hope that helps!

I had a squeak in my instrument cluster. Discovered that by poking all around the edges of the clear plastic in front of the instrument displays, one spot silenced the squeak when I pushed, came back when I released. So I wedged a small piece of black felt at that spot between the clear plastic and its dark plastic surround. Silence. The felt wedge can't be seen. What the solution lacked in elegance was made up for in function.
