Hey Guys,

I installed my bmc air filter yesterday in the morning...

Hardest part was getting the front wheel lining off, what a pain in the ass.

Anyway, I saw an instant improvement when driving. ~15 mpg city (from 9-12) and while driving back, granted, not driving it like an italian car (steady at 80mph; 3k rpm) I got....

27 mpg

On top of that, much quicker throttle response, and I personally hear a difference in my stock exhaust... it's a bit "fuller"

I was told by you guys theat there isnt a real increase in HP, so I wont say that I feel a difference in power either... it sprobably placebo :]

3K RPM on my Coupe is 72 MPH on California freeways, and is verifiable with one CHP officer.

Which, by the way, is a very inconvenient way to get this information.

Needless to say, he did not have the ability to add any fuel consumption data.

The BMC's do yield noticeable improvement. The exhaust will sound a bit different and low speed hesitations tend to disappear.

I have experienced the same with my 360.

That's a huge jump in mileage, however. Did you reset your indicator while driving? That will make a big difference as it senses the fuel flow at the constant speed and is not representative of all your driving.

They are very good filters and substantially less restrictive that the OE's.

Their products are great but their way of doing business is arcaine and backwards. This is why they are difficult to obtain in the US.

They have gone through 5-6 distributors here in the US none of which has worked and they are about to try another.

Good luck to them.

We almost always have these in stock, we recently ran a special for $99 + shipping on these filters which is a heck of a deal considering that they are imported. We'll continue to sell and support them directly as they are the best product on the market for the Maserati. We do carry them for the Ferrari as well as other brands.

Mention you're on Maserati Life and we'll let them go to you for the same deal.

HAS ANYONE EVER Why don't you do it yourself?
!!!!!FIRST OF ALL DO THIS WITH THE ENGINE COLD!!!!!!
It is very easy and 100% secure.
All you need is oil, filter and two brass O-rings for the oil tank's and carter's bolts.
Unscrew the front apron which covers the front lower part of the engine, open the hood and twist the left cover's clips, locate the oil's cap and unscrew it, and remove the oil level indicator.
First unscrew the bolt located in the bottom center (under the car) of the two sides of the V8.
about 1 Kg of oil will come out.
Unscrew the bolt located on the bottom of the oil tank (left side of the car behind the wheel). The rest of oil will come out from there.
Unscrew the oil filter using your hands or a special filter chain.
(you can buy it for cents in a petrol station).
Leave it to drain about 5min.
Start screwing back the two bolts using new O-rings.
It is not critical to have Maserati O-rings.
Find similar at a petrol station near you.
Tight up bolts pretty good.
Screw the new filter using your hands as far as you can, and tight it up twisting it haft a turn with the chain.
Pour 8lt of oil. put the cap and the oil indicator back, place NEUTRAL and start the engine.
DO NOT ACCELERATE!!!!!!
Wait about 2min, turn the engine off, wait about 15min remove the oil indicator and check oil level.
It should be ok by now.
check for leakages at the bolts or filter, if you notice some, tight them up a bit more but DO NOT UNSCREW THEM.
That's all, screw the apron back and cruise happy with a few hundreds of $ in your pocket.
If you think you cannot do all the above, avoid all the mess and trouble and pay the guy, but 350-400$ is alot of money for this labour.
It is worth trying IMO.

HAS ANYONE EVER POSTED "PHOTOGRAPH" STEP BY STEP details OF THE MINOR MAINTENENCE like changing air filters, spark plugs, etc. I have seen a thread for DIY OIL CHANGE which seems very helpful, with every step pictured. :D

I just asked my local dealership to install a BMC air filter in my GS, and I got a call from the technician that the filter could cause my check engine light to turn on (false positive). Has anyone experienced this? I would hate to have false positives and ignore the light when there is really something wrong.

The dealer said it was probably an electrical glitch though

Is there a BMC filter available for the Quattorporte?
I've tried to order them but it doesn't look like they're available yet. If I understand my rep over there ( communication is a bit rough in translation ) they are working on one.
