So this morning I remove my steering wheel because, as I suspected, it was “off a tooth” from where the center line marking is on the column shaft. To my shock, the splines on the steering wheel are rounded out / gone!!!! Basically, the steering wheel was only secure by pressure from the nut. It’s hard to imagine how this could have happened to a steering wheel. Thankfully, the splines on the shaft appear serviceable.

Now my search for a replacement wheel is on. It’s a 2006 QP duo select -can I use any wheel from a Quattroporte M139, including Automatic?

The fact that the splines on the column are intact:

It is clear someone (previous owner? dealer?) replaced the wheel and did not fit well (different model?) so he rounded up the splines with a mill file.

Whoever did this must be executed !

I can't think a reason why someone would cut the splines inside the wheel.

Unfortunately that 's the risks of a used car.
You never know what's inside.
