2017 QP S - Tried to pop the hood today and nothing…

Handle inside the car moves but feels like it is not hooked to anything. No resistance, moves freely but does nothing.

Any emergency hood release option? Would appreciate other tips what to start doing first. I am going to start by pulling panels around the handle in hopes that the cable came unhooked but not sure why that would have happened spontaneously.

Okay, got it apart and looks like cable is broke somewhere inside the engine compartment?
I took kick panel and pull handle off. Cable was still attached at the handle. I pulled the cable from the support to see if I could pull enough by hand to pop hood and I get some travel then it stops moving. See pictures for range of travel I got. Haven’t tried to pull super hard with pliers or something, but I figure the amount of travel I have and force I am using should be enough to pop hood. Now what? Can’t open hood to replace cable, if i were to buy one. Go to dealer or pull harder with pliers?

If it's broken, you likely won't do any more harm trying to pull the cable a little harder. Almost sounds like something is interfering inside the engine compartment at the latching mechanism...

Also be aware that you may need to hold the sheathing with one set while pulling on the cable with another.

Pulled with pliers with the sheathing snapped back in its place to hold it. Nothing. Seems like if the cable broke, it would move with resistance as I pulled the frayed bits into the sheath. This feels like a hard stop, almost like the metal cylinder on the other end of the cable is hitting the sheathing like it came loose from its actuator. Otherwise something else seems blocked. Went to the dealer to see if they had a secret ways to get the hood open. They quoted me $1500 just to open the hood. Amazing.

Ugh; sorry. Was afraid of something like that, or...as mentioned...something impinging upon the latch itself. See Spare parts diagram for Maserati QTP 2014-2021 (M156) QTP. V6 3.0 TDS 275bhp 2017 Front Lid Opening Control. if you haven't looked there already.

Spare parts diagram for Maserati QTP 2014-2021 (M156) QTP. V6 3.0 TDS 275bhp 2017 Front Bumper. can also help you with front bumper assembly...

One of those things that's more time-intensive than overly expensive or complicated, likely...

Thanks for the links. I had seen the cable one but hadn’t looked at the bumper itself yet. I am wondering if I got it up on a lift if there would be a clear shot to the latch for a pry bar or something to flip it open. Not being able to open the hood is an issue I never expected. Wondering what the stealership was thinking of doing for $1500. Could have asked but had to get out of there before I punched someone.

You may be able to, but I somewhat doubt it (which is likely why the # the dealer quoted was what it was). Totally worth a shot...sorry you're dealing with this. In the good old days, a screwdriver through the grille...

If you grabbed the cable with a pair of pliers then you are kinda screwed...Forget the dealer..Take it to a body shop..They are good at that kinda stuff. You might be able to remove the front fender well liner and access the latch..I haven't had that happen on one of those cars yet..Jason

The saga has ended.
Took it to two Indy body shops. Both with great Google reviews. Both told me they couldn’t think of a way to get the hood open that wouldn’t cost or exceed the dealer’s $1500 quote. Cutting a hole in the hood, etc. Both told me to go back to the dealer. I did so with my tail between my legs. Picked the car up today. Cost me $1450. They told me it took a combination of going in from underneath and removing some of the bumper. The cable was not broken, it had just came disconnected from the latch. All is good now, but I need to look more closely in the daylight to see what I may do to make sure that shit doesn’t happen again..

Thanks for the advice.

That sucks, and I'm sorry. Thanks for at least circling back...hope it never happens again.
