Hi ,
Just surfing around the net and phew this forum is well hidden - but I found it !!!
Took delivery on August 1 this year of a slightly used GT (post 6k service from the main stealer) I have already done 2 k + miles - I am using it as a daily driver  - I had one issue with gear selection - it was a cable adjustment apparently - dealer fixed it no sweat - its a '05 in rosso with black interior - I love the uniqueness of it - (traded in a E320 and a 993 to get the price sensible and my garage clear) Just a little worried about clutches seems to be a common thread - I will just go with the flow here - my clutch seems fine - I only go hooligan once a week or so !!! - only comment here is its a little more twitchy than the porker was but what a smile it leaves me with especially with the traction control turned off :D

Fellow GT owner, I have an '02 GT - still has original clutch (only 13K miles though). I drive it in "hooligan" mode when I have it out, and like you can't wipe that silly grin off my face.

Clutches

Most of the issues with clutches relate to the CC box and many of the 'issues' have been raised on this forum - check out the appropriate threads. As far as the GT version goes, the main issue is gear selection, particularly getting from 1st to 2nd from cold-start.

I've had mine about a month, and I use it as a daily driver. A little more practical than the Porsche, and I find people are a bit more friendly towards me, when I'm trying to get out of a side turning...:) . It attracts the 'right sort' of attention....

I've been pleasantly surprised with my experiences so far - I was expecting the car to fall apart as soon as I took it off the forecourt, judging by some of the comments regarding the marque on other websites....

I'm sure you'll find this website very informative and the members are really helpful.

Enjoy....

great choice! you absolutely will not regret it. do not sell it.....let me repeat that.....do not sell it.

I say that because I sold my '03 CC and almost immediately regreted it, now with my '06 GS I'm back in automotive heaven. I have read many other posts about people getting rid of their Maser only to deeply regret it. If it gives you a headache, it is a temporary thing, do not sell it, it will always reward you back down the road.

Hi dttheliman, welcome and congrats on the purchase. Like you I find the car a little "frisky" in the dry (in the wet it is frankly hopeless if pressing on, but will change tyres when the current set wear out to see if that changes matters) but that is part of the fun. My GT is going back to the dealer tomorrow to have a vibration issue looked at but I have also just started to experience a selection problem mainly into second gear, either going up from 1st or down from 3rd, where it completely baulks repeatedly. Is this the same sort of problem you experienced and if so what was the fix? It feels like it is a selector issue and is intermittent, but invariably happens when trying to make a quick shift while having some fun! Any ideas greatfully received.

Cheers

Gear selection

Hi Colossus,

OK the gear selection thing - this happened while I was thrashing the car - 1st to 2nd became impossible at any speed except stopped - 3rd down to second was sticky but with a throttle blip I could get the gear in - changing from 2nd to 3rd a non issue . I drove the car for about 150 miles without using 1st - I phoned the dealer (in NW UK) who suggested I get the car recovered using Masareti Assist ( a freebee if you are still covered under guarantee) no sweat they were great came and picked up the car - the workshop report says - readjust cable and linkage tested OK - charge £0.00. So your guess is a good as mine.

The vibrations - when I test drove the car there was a small shimmy on the steering wheel which got worse as your speed increased - wtf - I insited that this was not normal and it was fixed in the pre-delivery - which included 4 new tyres and resetting the steering geometry (report says fitting some shims ?) - tyres are Goodyear Eagles 265/35Z rear and 235/40Z front - this made the car much more stable and have not noticed any vibration since, just a small rattle out of the lhs door - screws loose on speaker and sorted at the same time as the gears .

Hope that helps

Thanks for the response, gear selection probs sound similar to mine but so far I have always been able to get first. I will have them look at it tomorrow. Car still under warranty so I am not too bothered, provided they sort it. Sounds like it is a known issue.

Vibration is not speed related but RPM related which suggests drive train issue to me but again they are checking tomorrow and I know Rich Hale on this forum has been having similar problems which have still not been properly resolved. I will post an update when I have news.

As for tyres, I am running Pilot Sports (they came with the car and were new when I purchased) used Goodyears Eagle F1's on my old M5 and they were fantastic in the wet and reckon they would improve traction significantly, but will wait until current ones are worn.

Even with these few issues, am just loving the car and hope it is not away too long being fixed.

Cheers

Hey Carl ,

Do what I did - I use the car as a daily - and I made a fuss - I was given a loaner - and heap of junk - caddilac (a new one) great for getting respect in bad areas but like a cow with a broken leg going round a corner - had it for a week and a half while they dicked around - at least I didn't feel guilty wheelspinning it until I got it to smoke hehehehe.

Good luck (best to make noise in person in the showroom)

Good advice but I have already dealt with this, I too use mine as a daily driver and am getting a loaner, which I think is likely to be an Alfa of some sorts from what I understand. Am resigned to the fact that I will be without the Mas for at least a week, but provided they get everything sorted (there are a few other minor issues as well - e.g. headlight washer cover came off in my hand while washing!) I will be happy.

Cheers
