Welcome and check out the Modern Maserati forum on this site. You will find a wealth of information.

Maintenance shouldn't be too much of an issue if you get a well sorted car. Things to look out for include F1 pump, clutch life, and a couple of other items. A good PPI is a must when buying an Italian exotic.

Service costs may be cheap or expensive depending on the balance of your bank account. Expect around $1,000 per year if nothing major fails.

Are you thinking of using the car as a daily driver?

the car will be a sunny day, date, special occasion vehicle. maybe a beach trip every once and a while. what are the other items to look out for? and lol whats a ppi :)? oh and thx a mill for replying!
PPI = pre-purchase inspection

Most Ferrari/Maserati dealers offer pre-purchase inspections. A good inspection should cost around $500. This is good insurance since many problems can cost thousands to fix. As a part of a PPI, you should also get a rough estimate of remaining clutch life.

Be cautious of any car that does not come with a complete set of service records.

Here is a great list of things to check when buying a Maserati...

Thank You. Wow, That Answers Alot! I Went To Dealer Today And They Did Say They'd Do A Thorough Overlook. The Car Is A 2004 W/ 41k Miles & Asking $33900. What Do You Think?
2004

I just purchased a 2004 with 20,000 miles with service records. Mint car now in the shop having a Clutch and F1 pump put in. The Clutch was shot and the F1 pump is me being pro-active. Cost $6000 dollars. Now before you say Wow! My friends Porsche (2000 996 ) needed a complete motor due to a crack in the engine .Cost over 15,000 dollars!! This is a guy that never saw over 5000 rpms or 60 mph. I think the Maserati is as good or bad as any other high end car. I tell you as much as I love the sound of that motor, I miss the Z0-6 Corvette that I sold to get this car. That car ran 12.5 at 116 mph stock at Englishtown raceway and still pulled amost 20 miles per gallon on the way back to Greenwich CT and never needed a thing from the time I purchased it till I sold it at 33k miles... But it also never caused friends and family to ask for a ride or drive 50 miles from long Island to see it. And it sure didn't make me smile like this one does at 6000 rpms. If you never had a Maserati the price for repairs may be hight But the joy of ownership is higher.

A proper PPI is one that was not performed by the selling dealer. The selling dealer has "skin in the game" and may not disclose everything. This is especially true with independent (non-Maserati) dealers. An unbiased PPI will give you the most realistic picture.

Here are some factors that go into pricing...

Year/Model/Options
Condition
Exterior/interior color
Servce history

$34K for a 2004 sounds fair or a little low even with the high miles. Is the title clean? Is it an off color? Have you reviewed all the service records?

it is sebring blue black leather interior w/ leather headlining. havent asked about serv records but i will 2moro. the carfax was clean as a bell.97%
came from florida. paint is in good condition some highway wear on hood.

priceless.
A PPI would be a safe bet given the mileage. You could be looking at a new clutch, brake pads and/or rotors, or tires as basic wear items. Throw in a fluid change for good measure and you could be looking at close to $10K to do everything.
This sounds like the car that is for sale at a small independent dealer in North Carolina...is that correct? If so, it was probably bought by the dealer in a wholesale auction on May 13th for $27,800. Auction info from another thread:

05/13/08 FAAO Lease $27,800 41,552 Avg BLUE

Appears to be a three year lease return which you could confirm on the carfax. I concur with everyone else..try to get the maintenance records for the vehicle and have a PPI done at one of the authorized ferrari maserati dealerships in the area. There is one in Greensboro and Charlotte.
I purchased my car from the FM dealer in NC(both the Charlotte and Greensboro location are all owned by Foreign Cars International (Paramore Automotive Group)). The service facility is in Greensboro and are top notch people--Jim Rosser is the service manager there and "took the bull by the horns" with one concern that I had and I could not be happier.
yes the car is at a small indep. dealer and that sound about right. i've been on vacation sorry about that! i will definitely use this info. do you know what auction?

What are the options on the car?
97%? what is the 3% about?
How many owners?

I would most certainly get a PPI on any Maserati. Many bought the car as a daily driver stepping out of a mercedes, bmw etc. They also thrashed them in the processs, including the clutch through ignorance and because many were leased which leads to a less than desirable interest in care and maintenance. The cheaper priced cars are cheap for a reason.

I had the 30k service completed at about $2800.
Regular service is usually $350.00
Tires tend to go fairly quick for me.. 1k+ for a new set and balance.
Clutch will last you anywhere from 8k to 20k depending on how you drive it.
clutch is about 3.5k to replace. Other have replaced F1 pump $700 i think.
shifter knob tends to loosen over time which requires removal of plate.
Check the rear of the car. Any damage to the paint, no matter how small will
require the entire back end to be painted: roof and everything behind the doors.
Cost is Approx 15k-17k. What you want to look for is the guy who did get rearended then touched up the chipped paint rather than properly repairing.
Condition of the Grill... Chrome version is 1.4K
Parts for this car are expensive. I had a small tab changed on the windshield wiper and its cost $40.00. Check the interior finish carefully to make sure everything is secure and aligned. Check seats, movement, air conditioning and dash etc.
