GTS 2013 - couple of small requests for MNA

3 months after the upgrade from my GT09 to a GTS13 I could not be happier. After years living with an gorgeous italian supermodel one gets used to the little details that sometimes are taken out of proportion, just because. But the GTS13 is a more mature version of that gorgeous supermodel... one that is not constantly demanding attention; like good wine it got way better with a bit of aging.

Since I know MNA reads this forum, my one request, that should be easily doable via software upgrade is to allow the car to "remember" the sport mode. I drive the car always in sport mode, some people might like the standard mode and in winter I do shift to "ice" mode... it would be great it the car stays in the last mode chosen by the driver.

Another easy fix via software upgrade is to "remember" the "sort" mode on the iPod/iPhone connection. By default it always goes back to "by playlist" I like it by album... although The sound of this engine is so beautiful that I am finding myself using the sound system less and less frequently.

Smiles per Gallon are way higher with this new model and it finally delivers on the lyrics... it does 185!

I understand your thinking but I'm not sure if you are in the majority. Maybe we take a small sample poll here. While I may drive in sport 60-70% of the time I don't think I am ready for it as I leave the garage and neighborhood at 6-7am. On start up its best to be in low profile mode and only after a few miles out do I find myself reaching for sport. This is my daily driver 3-4 days a week.

This exact problem probably influenced Maserati when they wrote the software that controls what mode the car starts in. One of the biggest problems I've had with using exotics as DD's are the amounts of complaints I get from neighbors about waking up their kids at 5 am when I leave the garage. This is probably most prevalent with the new FCar v12's which when started cold can be heard 10 houses down.... That is what made me buy my S class so I don't have to prematurely wake my kids and neighbors up....

This is such a strange issue. It seems that regardless of the year or model, SOME cars retain their driving modes and some do not. My Maseratis have always retained their mode (Sport) upon restarting the car. Always. Every time. The demos I've driven have responded the same way - always remembering the driving mode at startup.

I'm surprised to hear a dealer suggest that the opposite is the default mode when I personally have yet to experience this in a Maserati.

Why the inconsistencies? Yes, strange indeed.

it looks like software to me... Maybe is related with a government / emissions regulation? who knows. But as per some responses to my post it looks like indeed it is a problem for some people if it were on the latest chosen mode (sport) in my case. I can understand why Maserati does not want to deal with it as whatever they do somebody will compliant  so I will keep pressing "sport" every morning as I drive this babe 7 days per week

As I posted previously, my new 2012 GTS auto defaults to the standard mode and will not retain the Sport mode from the previous drive. Which is ok with me as how hard can it be to push one button? Anyway, it is a small thing. I usually leave it in standard as perhaps this uses less gas than Sport (?). Also, with the loud aircon it masks the radio too much. When I want to listen to the engine, I turn off the radio and push Sport. Otherwise, I like to cruise with the radio on. -Robert.

I use sport mode about 50% of the time. Pushing the button is no biggie. But the ipod thing, that sucks. I can't believe they would let the product leave the factory like that. I wish it could just continue playing the playlist remember where it's at. As it is now, it will continue to play your playlist, but you cannot fast forward to another song or it will start at the very first song of your entire ipod library. Really lame.

Certainly pressing the Sport button isn't one of life's true challenges, but it seems counter-intuitive to me. How many other user settings reset themselves upon turning the car off? You parked the car in a particular location and were in Sport mode at the time -- it stands to reason that you'd most "likely" - even if not necessarily - want Sport mode again when you decided to drive again. Given the breadth of habits of Maserati owners, I can only view this as a design flaw.

Personally, I'd find it a real drag if I had to push that thing every single time I started the car. Out loud I'd say, "no big deal" but in my mind I'd be saying, 'this is ridiculous.' There aren't so many adjustable settings in the computer that another one would suddenly make the car too complicated. Add "Retain Driving Mode Upon Restart ---> [on] or [off]" as a user setting and our lives would be grand.

Hi Elambo.... i can agree with you or either way, it really isnt that important to me but I agree it shouldn't be that hard to program it. Anyway, Id like to know if anyone else's car's A/C automatically starts if the outside temp is very hot? Even though I shut my A/C all the way off after each drive, sometimes it starts itself with the car in the next morning. Maybe because its so hot here in Miami? Or, just another quirky intermitent "feature". lol. -Robert.

I agree with elambo, especailly as some Maserati's do stay in Sports Mode when you switch off the engine, as mine does. I do believe all Maseratis should. Having it like it is is ridiculous. It would be like say you love to listen to Fox News Channel but when you switch off and then switch on the next time, the radio reverts to CNN. Perish the thought!

my gallardo goes back to default normal setting every single time, regardless of whether it was in sports or corsa mode when the engine was turned off. considering how no manufacturer can please every single consumer, it kind of makes sense to default to the most conservative setting to cater to the broadest spectrum of the consumer base. after all, the car could be driven the next time around by a different family member who prefers the base normal setting.

kind of reminds me of the iphone 'silent' button at the side of the phone, and some hoo-hah about it not silencing the alarm. bit of a first world problem, if we can take a step back and laugh at ourselves. :D

It could also be driven by a family member who prefers the sport setting, and more likely would. And that goes to my point: these are exotic sports cars, built to go quickly and aggressively, therefor the broadest spectrum of Maserati owners would likely prefer Sport over leisure.

If we were talking about a Tercel then I'd expect non-sport to be more appealing to the common owner.

Perhaps we should start a poll here and find out which mode forum members prefer.
