GSM Phone for US (Coupe/Spyder)

2097 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Glenn Wallace
Has anyone had any success with phone integraton in a US car?

The Maserati site says the GSM phone is "not for the US" but I've seen a couple of cars sold here say they have the GSM phone option.

Or does everyone just use a headset?

OK, the most I've found so far is a mute/switch lead setup for the older 3200GT.

Anyone know if this will fit the newer cars?
I'm looking for a way to both mute the stereo and get audio from the phone through the car speakers.

The mute lead I listed above for the 3200GT is for the Becker head unit I think. Dashmount.co.uk only lists a Becker switch/mute lead too.

I have a Nokia Bluetooth phone, so I'd probably use a Nokia CK-7W kit rather than a cradle etc., but I still would like to try to get a nice mute/switch setup.

I got my Valentine 1 and IceLink installed today, so I made at least some progress today!
How my auto mute bluetooth kit is fitted.

I have an Ericsson Bluetooth Car Kit installed which works well with my Nokia phone. I had it professionaly installed but when I fitted my IceLink, I could see how they did it. The control box for the car kit has been located under (and behind) the ashtray. These wires feed back into the void under the arm rest where there is another box which controls the auto mute for the entertainment system. Where the large Maserati plugs prevoiusly directly plugged into the back of the amp unit, they now plug into the mute unit and this then plugs into the amp. I guess this means you need a seperate mute kit. This kit also directs the telephone audio through the car speakers.

I addition, the controller switch has been neatly mounted by the wing mirror retraction switch near the ashtray. The cable then runs down into the small storage tray where the rubber mat hides the hole that needed to be drilled.

My dealer is UK based but you might want to call to find out what to buy - they are Motor Mods on +44 1242 679222.
Hope this helps.

Interesting, I don't suppose you saw what brand the mute box was they installed under the ashtray? (I know I can call and ask, I guess being in the US it isn't like I'd pay to install them anyway...)

Are the 02-05 Coupe/Spyders known as 4200 in the UK?
Mute box

Sorry Glenn, it doesn't have a brand on it. I have the fitter coming out on Thur to fit a kit to another car so I will ask him what box he used in mine while he is here.

I asked him on the telephone but he said he needed to see it to know - as they use different types.

The coupe is generally called the 4200 here as there was a 3200 twin-turbo predecessor (which was not sold in the US).

The guy had a look but did not recognise the model. He said there are a number of models they can use and suggested a audio dealer in the US should be able to advise you.

Thank you for asking.

Not very likely!!! They're not a very common item here, even for "common" cars, let alone something that would fit a Maserati.
