Hi all - I'm brand new to the forum. I was hoping to get some help and information about a noise I am hearing ONLY at start up, within the first minute of starting up. The noise is more sustained on a cold start than if the engine is warm/hot. The noise seems to be more prominent from under the car vs sticking your head under the hood. I've included a link to a video of the sound to better demonstrate. You will start hearing the obvious noise at around the 15 second mark and you'll notice how the sound starts to fade away within a minute. Any and all information and help would be greatly appreciated. Driving performance does not seem impacted at all.

Sounds like an exhaust leak...When the metal expands it closes up the loose joint...Jason
Hi Jason - Thanks so much for the quick reply. You know, that's an interested thought/idea and quite honestly would explain the strong exhaust smell at startup NOT coming from the rear of the vehicle but rather, right under the driver seat which seems like where the sound is coming from. Anyone idea what the fix would be?

I actually have the same exact issue, the noise isn't as noticeable but the fumes coming from the front of the car (left side of the engine bay when I stuck my head in and tried to smell it) is horrendous... Only does that when the car is cold. After reading Jason's comments, I'm guessing in my case it might be a small exhaust leak on one side?

Yeah. It goes to my guys' shop on Wednesday so we'll see what happens then. I'll keep this thread updated. Thanks for your feedback.

I would bet on a loose down pipe, happened to my 2014 as well. Easy fix.

now I have bad smell from the same region but there is apparently no leak to be seen under the hood nor everywhere else.

I have to say that lately I don’t move That GT that often; every 10-14 days if ever…

Will get this checked when the weather gets better, I bet on Calipers and | or some strange issue with EPB release (it smells the most when the battery is low and the EPB error appears and goes on the first cold start).

Thanks for your feedback, Alec. I never thought of the loose down pipe until Jason mentioned it and it's a good call out. Hoping for it to be something as simple as that which means less time in the shop.
Do you drive it that infrequent because you have other cars to play with? Weather gets in your way? I try to drive it or start it once a week at the least to get a full cycle... I was told that these cars' seal dry out if they aren't driven somewhat frequently so I do my best. I travel a lot so that tends to get in the way from time to time.

since you notice a smell as well its probably not exactly the same thing but I had a similar rattling at cold starts and on cold days that went away after about a 5 min-10 min drive and my issue was theres a small heat shield in the transmission tunnel that blocks alittle heat from a transmission harness plug. It is held on by 1 small bolt on the transmission and 2 captive nuts on the chassis, for my car the captive nuts had vibrated off and only the one bolt on the transmission was holding the piece on so the heat shield rattled against the transmission until it warmed up then it basically would stop flexing so the rattling stopped. I just removed mine for now as the stress of just being held by the one bolt caused it to start tearing around the one bolt area and I didnt want it to just fall off onto the road somewhere and damage someones car.

Hi there - thanks for sharing your experience. This is also very good insight that I myself will check out and also relay to my Maserati shop. I'll be keeping this thread updated as I receive or come across any updates. Appreciate it!

One additional area to check for a cause for the fumes your detecting is the possibility of a slight oil drip on the exhaust, especially when starting cold with the car having sat for a while. Valve cover gaskets may be weeping, thus needing to be tightened (checked for correct Torqued or replaced.
