Hi, I've seen a few posts about this but would like some insight still..apparently not totally unusual for these to go out at 30-40k miles. My car is a 2013 at around 42k miles. I got the battery light on solidly while driving home from an errand. I made it home okay. volt reading is 11.67 on idle, alternator undercharging. I have it on my CTEK battery charger right now so I can back it out and get it towed when the time comes to fix it hopefully somewhat soon.....

So I know the intake has to come off etc and it's a lot of labor. I'm looking into shops around me. I'm not really wanting to take it too far like to LA area for this. I'm told it's likely the voltage regulator being the actual issue, not like that matters...

I saw a post from 2018 saying dealer charging $660 for a new alternator and replies saying that sounded about right.

I'm looking for a part now.. at eurospares, scuderia ($743), ricambi....part number is 325296....I see some going over $1k.....I mean I guess I'm just wondering how rare this part is ?? and what the value is? I'm not looking to cheap out on it but I want to pay what it's current actual value is because I am slightly confused.

1.) Any other place I should look? Trustworthy/reliable. Is it possible at all to order a part from a Maserati dealer or would they need to do the actual service on it as well? I am not really near a dealer. Based on a few not calling me back I'm guessing I cannot retrieve a part from them....which is fine...just trying to get options....Any eBay accounts that I can trust ?

2.) Conflicting opinions from mechanics on whether I should go new or used (with rebuild kit). it seems most just want to go with a new part.

3.) Advised by a Ferrari mechanic I know to have all intake gaskets replaced then and that SD3 needs to be used to clear out any codes from low voltage... ..which makes sense,.

I'm not in a rush as I want to be confident in who I take it to, but I want to purchase the part myself.
So I would appreciate any thoughts..

You need a new OE alternator...I would let the shop purchase the part and charge you a reasonable amount and you'll have a warranty...A lot of shops are not installing your parts...We are 50/50 depending if I like you or you are spending money at our business.....It is over 600.00 BTW...You don't need any special tool to clear the faults.. Good Luck..Jason

Your in luck, I have my OEM one still that I replaced because I thought it was on the way out because the battery light would flicker at 3,00 RPM's. After I replaced it with a new OEM one (yes it was a pretty big job) it still had the same issue!!!
Come to find out, it was just a loose negative battery terminal clamp, and the engine to frame ground strap.

I could sell you my good used OEM one for $500 if interested...I'm In Southern Cal...hope this helps...

We haven't had any luck with rebuilders of the OE alternator (all attempts failed pretty quickly) and haven't found any other reliable alternate versions. So this is another recommendation to buy a genuine alternator (we do sell them, parts are direct from Maserati). There is just too much labor involved to have to redo the work from bad parts.

The other consideration these days is that for many Maserati's, the original intake gaskets are no longer available and the dealer wants you to purchase a new manifold design and gaskets as well which is obviously pretty expensive, especially considering that manifolds don't really fail too often. You can likely take a good deal of care as you lift up the manifold and be careful not to damage the originals, clean them up well and still reuse them if your gaskets aren't available. There is a chance it would leak but it's often worth it. We've considered using a gasket rejuvenator as well to help bring older ones back to life but haven't tried it just yet.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,

Hi,
Just to share my experience, I had a defective alternator on my Granturismo 2009

I wanted to buy the parts myself because I always find the parts at a better price than my mechanic.
Here is where I bought my alternator
I also order the new intake manifold gaskets from Eurospares and took this opportunity to order few additional parts (2 new ribs belt, 2 new belt tensioner).

I gave all this to my mechanic who did the installation.
Works like a charm :)
Happy alternator makes happy driver
