The plastic screw cover folds forward. Use 2 mini screw drivers to pry at the sides.
I found a chrome clevice rod that you find under your sink that opens and closes your pop up plug. I used it because it was chrome and had
holes that I could use under that screw. Just bend it to the shape you see in the video.

Pretty crafty! I just had a customer`s car doing this last week..I may steal your idea...I even took his apart somewhat..Not really a good way to fix them...The shaft just relies on friction to hold it up and the plastic around it cracks..He wouldn`t let me cut the stitching and get into there farther.....Jason

I'm going to machine one of these myself. $94 for a simple aluminum tube, with a set screw and threading on one end? nah... I'll make it.
