I have read a number of posts on the F1 pump and relay. Could someone explain what the pump and relay are, and what the issue is in terms of the pump failing and replacing the relay propholactically. As you can tell I am not a car mechanic, but am trying to learn about my new QP Sport before issues arise. Thanks

The F1 pump supplies hydraulic pressure to the CC shifter and clutch actuator. You can hear it when you open the door.

It cycles as the car runs, and is powered electrically via the relay.

The relays (apparently) either stick or overheat, leading to the pump being stuck on - it is not designed to run continuously and then overheats and dies. (that is the theory) Replacing the relay reduces the chance the pump will get stuck on.

Regardless, the pumps have a fairly short life from what has been seen on here, and it is usually SOP to replace the relay (and fuse) when replacing the pump.
