Hi all,

I recently got a quattroporte not too long ago. Love the car.

One thing that has become an issue for me is the leather steering wheel. It is....DIRTY....or so I thought?

I noticed all these black patternal marks appearing on the cuoiu leather that looked like they were simply dirt. I checked out that cleaning leather thread and tried some of the leatherique products out...and they managed to remove what was actually was a small amount of the dirt....but now the rest looks like it is the actual dye coming off of the leather?

I think this may be from having sweaty palms while driving or something? My hands certainly aren't dirty like I have been playing in the dirt, but the steering wheel looks TERRIBLE now.

Has anyone had anything even remotely close to this happening?

I am seriously considering buying a new steering wheel with the wood option if this is even possible to have it replace the current one?

The dye coming off (in fact, it's the leather stripping out) is not uncommon in Maser steering wheels; seen 2 or 3 in that condition already.

On my car, there was an issue with the coloration on one of the seats.

It went back to the dealer for a touch up and the repair is invisible.
You may be able to find someone who can re dye the wheel for you.

The guy that did my car was an independent that did work for car dealers in the area.

If you can't get it covered under the warrenty, you may be able to find someone who does this work for the dealers, and save some money by going direct.
