While removing the reverse switch trim panel to remove the hand brake sticky panel, I thought I would see the switch lift detent issue (that needs to be fixed).
On opening the switch I found a loose copper part (looks like a contact?) floating inside - see photo.
Does anyone know where it may comes from?
There is no obvious sign of where it would be missing from. Maybe it is from elsewhere?
Switch sounds to click on microswitches in both forward and reverse movements.
Thanks

From a close examination of your image I believe there is one of these items installed in the LHS. And it looks like a limiter for the cylindrical peg. Therefore suggest you inspect the RHS ( in image - dotted arrow to see if it should be there.
I have not repaired one of these units but the part looks like a retaining clip As I suggested. Cannot hurt to check.
Good luck.

Thanks Mike, I can see what you are seeing, but it is just the photo. Both sides are the same, there is no clips, here is another photo of that area. There is the brass bushings which are on the inside part being the lever, these are on pins on the lever and maybe only 2-3mm diameter and shear off the lever. I am almost wondering if that bit got in the switch somehow and jammed the lever and force sheared the pins.
thanks though for your input.

Hey Jem, that looks like it should be right there. Is there an electrical contact circuit would be completed if it were there; a reversing light switch contact point? What would contact it in that position?

Just also thinking it could be a snap retainer for a cover?

Thanks Jason, have done that now.
Regarding fork repairs, have you tried to drill fork and put in a steel pins and use existing brass collars, rather than the 116pound (+ shipping ) Hill Engineering fork?
