So, after scraping up the driver's side rear wheel the other day, I had finally come to grips that eventually my baby would have a few scars...but when I added the passenger's side wheel this weekend, I was ready to declare war on curbs. It is a bit of a "catch-22" - I like parking on end spots to reduce risk of door-ding and other crises, but the curbs come into play...aaaargh.

Its an easy fix...

Rick:

I can not tell you how many times I got curb rash on my 430s.... However, I have good news.. There is a garage in PA, right before Neshaminy Mall. The name escapes me at this moment.

They will redo your entire rim.... For $150.00.... I mean their product is amazing..... Certainly worth the cash... Your rim comes back looking perfect.

Oh well, you cannot have them all your side, can you?

Don't worry, nowadays there are sites who bare-strip, repair and power-coat the wheels to an identical finish as-new. You should be OK.

If you go to Italy and drop-into any Maser / Ferrari dealership and ask to see a used example, scuffed alloys ALL THE WAY on the edge (not just 1 or 2 unlucky spots, but the whole rim) are as usual as cappucino. They seem to LOVE curbs (there is an Italian word for it, cannot remember right now...)

Anyway... let a couple of weeks pass by (you're no doubt now almost exclusively spotting your wheels every time you get close to the car... know the feeling) and you will have the kerb erased from your visual boresight. But it you can't stand it, you can repair the wheels easily.

... and keep 'em waiting for the next curb... :D

front wheel drive Maserati

You have to hand it to the dealership. After refinishing my rims this week, they mounted the wide rims/265 tires up front, and, naturally, the front wheels at the rear. I've been driving around oblivious to the mistake, thinking it was strange the car handled better. Anyone want to race me in reverse?

I scraped the heck out of one of my wheels when I first got my car (I felt like I'd been gutted), took it to my local body shop, and they Fed Exed it to a place called Transwheel in Indianapolis (800-892-3733). Looking back over the paperwork from the prior owner of my car, I noticed that he had a similar issue and the Maserati dealer in Chicago also sent that damaged wheel to Transwheel. It's an amazing process; you drop your car off, they send the wheel out overnight express, it's repaired, sent back, and you have your car back two days later. When you see it in perfect shape again, the pain subsides. Presumably any body shop can get this done for you with Transwheel.

Kerbed wheel repairs in the UK

I've always used Proclean in Prescot (Nr Liverpool). They charged me £140 for four wheels which had kerbing not only on the rim but also the splines on my 4200.

Came out like new and highly recommended. I've had 3 cars into them over the last 2 years.

you guys must not have the ball polished wheels. I hit a curb with the front passenger wheel, and no one knows how to fix them, I did however have someone take the scuffs out, but they could not match the ballpin finish. Just ordered my new rim. Oh well the Italians have a monopoly i guess.

Curbed my right rear wheel (15 spoke) first day I had the car, luckily it was very minor.
