Im looking for a new car and have narrowed it down to these two. An 05 clk55 amg or an 03/04 coupe cambiocorsa. I drive a c32 now and have been in other amgs but how would the maserati compare as a daily driver? Also how wide of tires can you fit on the stock maserati rims?

My 2003 Spyder CC has been a daily driver (25k miles in 24 months) and just as reliable as any other car I have owned (Jag XK8, Mercedes CL500). This includes three track days so far, which I never would have even considered with the other cars. There is just something about the Maserati - handling, sound, leather interior, etc... that is addicting. The car is flat-out fun to drive.
The only criticisms are the lousy radio reception (no external antenna, which is also a plus) and a pretty crappy navigation system.

Rumor has it that the biggest rear wheel can be fitted is 20" x 11j. HRE contends that it is mathematically impossible but admits has made and sold such wheels that was mounted on a coupe outside of US.

19"x10j rear, 19"x8.5j front are the recommended sizes.

Being in a maserati forum, no surprise to the answers here. The CLK still lacks a personality or road prescence. If you want anything sporty in this price range the SLK55 is it, otherwise the CLK is no match in any category except sales, which is another good reason why not to get one.

I had two CLK 430s..

And been in the CLK55... I loved my BENZs....

The Maserati is just on a different level. I am 4AB
not saying that because I own on. You can't compare a massed produced Benz to an Italian exotic car.

I drive mine everyday except in the snow and bad rain. I like to keep her clean.

Maintenance costs are a LOT more than a Benz. I just paid $360 for my first service...

But the performance, style and WOW factor can not compete!!!

Drive both and then decide. Good Luck!! CM

My lease just ended on November 1st on my CLK55. It was a black on black cabriolet. I LOVED the car. I had a porsche 993 series carrera before that and liked it even more. It was fast, the top went down smoothly with very little effort. I had few problems with it.

BUT... I have a new girlfriend now....I have a nero on black GS. Leather inserts and carbon fiber trim everywhere you could put it. I use it as a daily driver and every night I am excited to know that I can wake up and drive this car. I have had the car 2 months and put on 1200 miles. There are so many things about the GS that I love:
-I have never seen another GS on the road in the U.S.
-It is very loud, and the sound is italian and fantastic
-It is very fast. faster than the clk55
-it handles very well, much better than the clk55.

In many ways the GS is similar to the CLK55. V-8, front engine, 2+2 seating, and similar dimensions. If you have never owned an exotic car, it is not at all like owning a mass produced car.

Good luck.
