I've replaced the fuse for the cigarette lighter about 5 times now. Anyone else have this problem? It seems that some plugs allow the center pin 'wings' to short to the ground. I'm wondering if there is an easy fix or a replacement part available.

I think Robert said that it was the fuse that was smoking! Har Har.

I put a maserati butane lighter from ebay in the ashtry slot and a cupholder sized ashtray with a flip top lid from a range rover in the cupholder spot. Actually the dealer gave me the ashtray when I bought it as I laughed at the ashtray which holds 2 cigarettes. I haven't driven a modern car lately that has a lighter that works for long. :(

I'm not a smoker, but those are good suggestions if the problem were the lighter. The actual problem is the lighter socket from which I am trying to power a Sirius radio. The two contacts are so close together that they short if the radio plug isn't put in perfectly.

This is only a temporary problem for me until I get my Kenwood A200 installed, but I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar issue.

Perhaps noone plugs anything into this socket (it does look like crap).

I power my Escort Passport 8500 from the lighter outlet, and while it does seem a bit "finicky" (it needs to be pressed in a little extra), it works.
