buying advice

Hi there

I'm looking to buy a 3200GT in the 2000/2001 year group. I would appreciate any advice you could give me in respect of what to look for/avoid, preference of GT over GTA, etc.

I have heard that the cambio gearbox and the clutch can be problematic. Is this malicious rumour, or a genuine problem?

I don't mind a few glitches - I'm used to them, my current ride is another temperamental Italian (Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0) - but it would be good to know what to expect before taking the plunge.

Many thanks in advance - hopefully I can make a wise purchase and then contribute more fully to this forum.

Thanks Bimbo, I had a good look last night through old posts and found much useful information.

Unfortunately I'm on a fixed budget this time round so can't extend to the 4200 ...

I was curious mainly as to whether there are any significant differences between earlier and later models of the 3200. I noticed a few references in posts to a different clutch, which dealerships were replacing, but I couldn't establish from what I read whether this was simply a recommended upgrade, or a genuinely problematic component. Someone on the forum did ask the question earlier this year, but did not get a response.

I'm pretty set on buying the 3200GT, however if there are strong reasons to hold off - ie the 4200 is a much better drive - then I will hold off and continue saving.

Many thanks Bimbo, that's really useful, especially the fact that the dealerships are diligent - Alfa dealerships in the UK for instance are the complete opposite.
