If the smell is like burning of plastic, Please check the Front distribution unit where the relays and fuses located.
Or could be due to engine oil leak and as leakage oil drop to the catalytic converter (CAT), It would produce burning smell.
I think you need to visit the workshop.

Any particular reason you think it is the AC? Does it smell like burning rubber? I had the AC go on my 09GT and it was rubbing the sepentine belt.

 

I thought it was the AC because the smell was coming in through the vents when I had the AC on. But today I did not have the AC on and the smell was there as well.

I think it is the leaking VALVE COVER GASKETS others have commented.

Just to avoid the common and strange - check under the body and make sure nothing is stuck tot he muffler. I had an Infiniti Q60 that had a plastic bag melted onto the muffler. Every time the car got hot, it would start to smell like burning plastic...

It actually wasn't the most obvious thing to find. Probably unlikely, but worth checking before going to the dealer.

 

I had the same problem. I opened the hood and couldn't smell it but inside the car I could. After driving a while it went away for the most part. It was a leaking rocker cover and the oil burning off the exhaust manifold.

 

How much did it cost to fix? Or did you do it yourself, I'm very willing to do it myself as Ive seen there are a few threads here about this issue. Are there any resources/videos online about how to go about it that you or anyone else maybe used?

 

The Masearri dealer did it. It was about $1200. I'm sure an independent would do it fo less.
