Best Way To Drag Race

What is the best way to get off the line quickly? Do I rev the engine to around 4000rpm with my foot on the brake and then click it into 1st? Will that even work?

My neighbour has a 2018 Audi RS5 and reckons his is quicker off the line. On paper he is correct. But I was in the Audi and I am not so sure. I think I can take him....

This is straight from the handbook:

MC Start Strategy (optional equipment)
With the aim of optimizing standing starts for performance driving (only recommended for use in areas closed to traffic and in accordance with traffic laws), the automatic gearbox system is equipped with quick start strategy.
This strategy is activated when the following conditions occur simultaneously:
  • - AUTO and SPORT modes active;
  • - ESC mode OFF;
  • - brake pedal depressed.
    In these conditions, the driver has the possibility to accelerate and, keeping the brake pedal depressed, keep
    the vehicle standing until reaching an engine speed between 2300 an 2500 RPM and then, upon releasing the brake pedal, have the optimal standing start performance.

This is not in my handbook. Neither do I have an ESC button.??
It's the traction control button...hold it down for 2 seconds to turn it off. Best way to drag race? Use a different car ;)
Look at section 5 page 143 for the Start Strategy. (Manual is for a 2015 GT Sport)

I have an MSP button for the traction control. I am up against an Audi RS5. I think I can have it.
My page 143 is different to yours:

Keep turning the pages...your close (mine is in PDF form).
btw, you will never beat that RS5 with one of these GT's. But I guess you should already know this...

I have a stage 2 A6 which is slightly faster than an S6 and slower than an Rs5 and faster than my gts. So I would say you have zero chance. Rs5 can run high 11s in the 1/4 mile.

Just keep him wondering... that's the beauty of this not well known car......the GT looks fast....sounds fast....turns heads....and is in a class of it's own...but it's NOT a race car. Why get egg on your face and have to listen to him yammer about beating you?

While we're at it, I'm trying to get my Flyer to fly. Me thinks maybe the best way is to put wings on it??? :unsure:

edit: can I use this one?

Our cars aren't made for drag racing from a stop start.
Best case is go to Mexico:cool: and race at high speeds, our cars do outrun lots. We have long legs and they need a stretch ever now and then.

Cross-over from another thread , where I posted this :
We love our cars , but …first, the GT is not anyway near a sports car, so let’s not kid ourselves. More importantly, from a traffic light or stop sign take off standpoint, it doesn’t even show up in the top 100 fastest cars out there . Just for perspective, coming in at number 100 is a time of 2.8 seconds .. so I’m guessing just extrapolating from that figure we may be in the bottom quarter of the top 200 …just maybe…
Most modern “common” sedans and even a bunch of SUVs will humiliate our GT in a 0-60 race
They’ll hear our beautiful exhaust note in sport mode fading behind them though .. 😒
Not that it’s a slug by any means, for a Grand Touring car it’s plenty quick / fast , but I for one wouldn’t take any chances trying to challenge and impress any sports cars from a stand still. Maybe form a rolling 120 mph on, it could have a decent showing vs. a bunch of cars that would beat us off the line .. I haven’t tested that theory yet .

YOURS does, but Joe Walsh was exaggerating .. that 1964 5000 had a max speed of 167 mph. ;)

True that lol
So on a related note : the visceral feeling of driving this car is pretty much unmatched, IMO. Stats just do not translate .
Same with a lot of 0-60 stats : I drove the Tesla ( Plaid model ) and as fast as it was, it left me completely unimpressed . I also drove a Ferrari Pista ( at a VIP Ferrari event to which I was invited by a good friend ) as well as the Superfast. But back to the Pista ; using launch mode that car is blistering fast.. and yet somehow my butt-o-meter just didn't meet the expectations I had . Not sure how to better explain that.. From a seat of the pants standpoint the couple of late 60s and early 70s American muscle cars I drove felt faster than the Pista , even tough in reality they would be annihilated in the worst way by a new Ferrari . I dont know if it’s the gearing, or the suspension, or the engine itself having a much smoother revv, , or a combination of all of those factors but
stomping on my '70 cuda off the line felt like I was catapulted out of here, with the seat construction pushing against my spine as if to go through me.. something about those old big block V8s ..

There’s no world where a GranTurismo beats an RS5 in a drag race

Just for fun ( I knew the outcome in advance ) I teased an RS6 into a “race”, we were both going about 60 or 70 mph. That was a hoot ! He pulled away as if I was a lamp post 😛
