Good morning Gents.

I have a 2005 Quattroporte that now has just over 53k miles. I love driving this car and obviously have driven it like crazy. I really have only had a few issues with the vehicle all of which have been handled by the dealership albeit not very fast. That being said I am periodically getting my battery light coming on saying alternator failure.

My thing is that the car is running great and has no problems starting up or keeping a charge. Before I go back into the dealership, whom I hate dealing with, does anyone have any idea of what the problem may be? Just curious. My warranty was up at 50k and in hindsight I probably should have gotten rid of it before then but I really do love this car. Thoughts....

It seems strange that it starts ok but the light comes on.

It could be your alternator is just at the edge of failing but gives just barely enough to charge the battery.

There has to be a good independent in your area, and you would be better off to seek one out.

Have it checked very soon before it becomes a major problem, and then you'll not be able to start the car.

You can head over to the autoparts store and buy an alternator/diode/battery tester.

Then follow the instructions and you will know within minutes what is wrong and can make a good decision on your course of action.
