Just finished this one. I replaced the head unit with a Kenwood DNX9980HD, added a 5 channel amp, replaced the factory speakers with Focal, added a 5 channel amp, 12" JL Audio sub in the trunk, changed the trunk carpet to black, Installed an Escort 9500ci with display concealed in rear view mirrow. Sound is night and day difference with many more features and backup camera.

Like it all except I'm not feeling the aftermarket look of the dash.. Was adding a cleansweep to the OEM headunit possible for similiar results? (minus the rear view camera)

You can keep the stock unit and add amps/speakers. On this car, backup camera, sat radio and full ipod control were a requirement, so the stock unit had to go. The Kenwood also gives alot more control over the sound.

Is their a way to hide the new unit and keep the OEM in place with the kenwood tucked away and still be able to get the sat and full ipod control?

You would have to be able to get to the unit to control ipod and sat. Wouldn't be very convenient, and there is not much extra space up front.

Love to see how it turns out. Using the Ipad as a GPS is great.. but for now I just have on the seat without any type of mount.

Great idea. I'm sure many of us would be interested to know how that turns out. May be a little cramped in the 4200 series.

Great job on the install. Actually, that was going to be my next adventure before I decide to sell mine.

I was leaning towards an smaller android tablet with internet as the head unit mounted behind the factory bezel. Relocating the OEM screen to the trunk was also a thought...just so I could access some of the OEM settings.

-> just food for thought.

Where is the amplifier located in the GT-S? I am hoping its under the trunk....
I am thinking of adding a ( removable ) amp+subwoofer in the trunk, and was wondering how complicated this would be. I want to be able to remove the amp and subwoofer when I have to use the trunk space to carry stuff...
