Its a lot of work.. Here’s an example install.
My other concern is that OEM cars that come with push button have been built to put their gear shift in neutral and I think the Maserati hard key key is tied to getting the gear shift to move while car is off (towing..).

What if your battery dies? Do you go grab the OEM key? After your 300 mile road trip? How would you unlock your doors if its totally wireless AND needs power from your dead battery? The hard key seems too important IMO..

I’ll say this... You ever seen a GT being towed by its rear end up on the hook and the front spoiler just scrapping along cause they couldn’t get in the car?

So i know a lot of people have gotten the AuCar Android Units via @Robin Elliott and I was curious if anyone has tried their keyless start unit? US $415.0 |Aucar Keyless start SMART ENGINE START REMOTO CONTROL OF MOBILE PHONE for Maserati GT/GC GranTurismo 2007 2015 on AliExpress

I am honestly less interested in remote start as I am having the more Modern Maserati Key for the GT.
I think I will be getting one soon. I think it is a really neat upgrade. As far as putting it into neutral to tow, I think if the battery is dead to use a jumper pack to get power to so you can put it to the on position and place it into neutral. But valid point

Looking at the install instructions that Eric shared with me, the system looks to be based on relaying signals from the existing keyfob through the new keyfob. You have to solder some leads to the existing PCB to pickup the signals and the rest of the install is pretty straight forward for the keyless entry function.

It's the push-to-start function where things get messy.

1. Due to the immobilizer chip in the original keyfob, you have to keep it the car...basically hide/tie it near the steering column somewhere.
2. The blade not only cranks the ignition but also unlocks the steering column. The "push to start" function would require to either: A) Remove the steering lock altogether or B) Insert the blade in the ignition slot, turn it to unlock the steering column and then cut off and file the key so it stays permanently inserted in the steering column unlocked position.

From my perspective, this would be a non-reversible install. Eric did say that the system is a work in progress so if there's enough of us interested, they may work on improving it for a better, cleaner, (maybe even reversible?) install.

Since Robin already has a rapport with AuCar, I'll defer to him on leading that discussion.

Do you have a copy of the install instructions by chance? I would like to study them. That may steer me away. I know Eric is on the chinese holiday. Thank you for sharing that.

So its dependent on the original, battery operated fob to be hidden close to the steering wheel...

I get that but what happens when that battery dies? Im not sure I want that many layers to get to crank. Its a good tech upgrade but I need assured access into my car...

That fob dies and your hard key is behind your dash then youre in....

Here's the install file...

For a back up entry method, the only thing I can think of is to get a local locksmith to cut the blank blade that comes with the new keyfob. (No way a dealer agrees to cut it...even for a backup key, they told me it had to be cut at the factory)

Nonetheless, there are definitely some deficiencies with the way the system would be installed.

I bought this mod about 8 months ago and have had it installed for six months. It is working just fine.
A couple of answers to above questions
1/ the old key fob does get disassembled but nothing is damaged. It is fully reversible
2/ the battery is not needed in the old remote for the chip to be read by the old lock cylinder.
3/ the physical key does not have to be cut. The blade is removed from the old remote and not CUT and is inserted and left "on" with a cover over it so you cannot see it is even there.
4/ the start button starts the car when you push and hold it. My car does not require the brake pedal to be pushed but some years do and this is accommodated with the kit.
5/ the accessory mode comes on by simply pushing start for a moment and not holding it till it starts.
6/ when you walk away from the car the locks auto lock and when you return they auto unlock
7/ if your battery were to die then you have several options - 1/ call AAA and they will get it open in 2 min, 2/ keep your old 2nd key in a hidden magnetic box somewhere on the car to unlock it manually, 3/ go to a locksmith and have the new remotes backup key cut to work as I did

I don’t see what the big deal is with having to turn the key to start the car. It’s “old school,” but that fits with the other old tech in the rest of the car. For a long time, Ferrari made you turn the key AND push the Start button which is a bigger “nuisance.”

A lot of work for what is essentially a useless mod in my opinion.
