Have a 2014 Granturismo and noticed only one fan comes on frequently and only at high speed. Guessing that's not normal, are both fans supposed to run? Could it be a relay?

The resistor looks good just based on visuals. Haven't had any overheating. Temps stays right at 195. But it has been in the mid to low 40's outside here.

They are both supposed to come on in two speeds...I would check the relays...Jason

Thanks, anything I should be looking for to indicate bad relays? Noticed a small bit of discoloration on the top relay.

Will see if there are any relays locally. I thought I saw some were able to find them at NAPA. Would I be looking for the new part# for this?

If I swap the relays would you expect both fans to come on? I'm assuming that the other relay is fine.

Relay itself looks fine but looks like there is evidence of some sort of event. The bottom relay has no discoloration.

The terminals will be discolored like the bottom of a cooking pan...Blued or brown colored...I wouldn't use any from NAPA..Google 2004 Range Rover air suspension relay...Get OE BMW and use two of those..Jason

the 2004 Range Rover air suspension relay appears to be a 70a relay... should that be what I'd use?

I'm not certain it's the relays. I can feel the T15 relay (1st Speed) click on when the one fan comes on. I swapped the relays and both relays will click on when in the T15 position. T16 does not click on with either relay plugged in. The 1st speed fan which is very loud. Seems like it's high speed.

Would the only other thing that cause one fan to turn on and not the other be a faulty fan unit?

Appreciate the help! Just got the car on two weeks ago today from Maserati dealer. They are out of state and when it was delivered the steering wheel controls didn't function at all so they are having me take it to a shop about an hour from here and they will work out the repair with them. I'll have them look into the fan issue too. I'm fine with replacing $30 relays if needed but a $600+ fan unit would be something I'd want the dealer to cover.

Any idea on the difficulty of replacing the unit? Diagram seems to show only 4 screws and there appears to be a lot of room underneath. Already had to order the front aero panel underneath since that was in pretty bad shape. Was missing sections.

I’ve done water pumps, alternators, and struts in other cars so if it’s along those lines it shouldn’t be an issue. Hoping it can be dropped in place without removing the front end and radiator.
That’s if this is even the issue. Might be something more simple than a bad unit but we’ll see.

So I may have found the issue with the low speed at least. Took the resistor out and at first glance looks to be in good condition.
Looking closer to the terminals it appears one end has rusted and separated from the spot weld. Could this be a reason only one fan comes on at high speed? Could definitely be the high speed issue but not sure if it’s the reason only one fan comes on.

I get a complete circuit if I tap the multimeter to the ends of the cylinder but not if I tap where the connector goes.

Could I just jump the resistor all together to test it?

That’s the issue! Now both fans come on!

I soldered the gap in the resistor to test it. I’ll get a new one ordered. Thanks for all the help!
