Hi all,
i have a 2005 QP with 4k miles ands it's started making a woorying sound when driving off from standstill. If i pull away with anything but the lightest prod of the throttle i get a squealing noise which sounds like either wheelspin (which is def not) or when i 've heard old fan belts on their last legs. The effect also seems to hold the car back a little from delivering an "instant" lurch forward.

The first few times i heard i thought perhaps greasy road or similar but it is now happening at virtually every set of lights unless i'm very very gentle on the throttle. will be booking in to dealer soon but just wondered if any other owners had experienced this fault or have any idea on poss cause

thks

We had a QP that made a noise that sounds like what you are describing, and the clutch was replaced under warranty. Make sure they check the clutch settings at the same time.

This could also be the brakes at the point of hill-holder release.. Does it make a difference if you take your foot off the brake for a few seconds - until the car starts to roll, and then hit the gas?

Idea re: source of "squealing noise" from QP

Just a thought:
I had a very similar sounding situation for a number of weeks, until I checked my tire pressures and discovered the noise and the lag in "instant throttle response" disappeared immediately. Your description sounds very similar to my experience. Hope this is the solution, since it's extremely cheap: 50cents for compressed air at the local gas station!!:)
Let us know.

This does sound like the clutch. I had the same sound on my QP, replacing the clutch fixed it completely.

any clutch experts?
booked in for next week and will post results when i return from vacation. dealer also thinks could be clutch. Just to try educate myself on this issue does anyone have experience as to how long i can expect the clutch to last as it seems from many posts that clutch failure is common across the product range and i also read that the clutch is classed as a wear item. does this mean i could expect a hefty bill every few thousand miles to replace, can i ask dealer to change settings without messing with performance in order to preserve wear on the clutch. sorry for all the questions but a little concerned.

The clutch on my 2005 QP lasted for 29,000 miles, but it did squeal for the last 7K miles or so. Always driven in manual mode and the dealer had changed the software setting for more aggressive (and smoother) launch from zero.

Obviously it's hard to tell without hearing it, but I have a coupe and when I would come to a stop it would whine/squeal (not all of the time). It would continue to squeal once I accelerated for about 5 seconds and would stop. It sounded exactly like a slipping fan belt. I also thought that is could be the throw-out bearing. I brought it in and asked them to check the tightness on belts. Apparently it was neither I needed a new gearbox. Good luck.

sounds a bit similar brian, mine squeals only on takeoff if the throttle pressed more than say 30% for appx 3 secs then all fine up thru the gears. have to say the take off is a bit dissapointing so hoping this squeal is holding the car back from full potential. i'm glad to be under warranty.

my 05 QP has a whine that sounds like a high pitch rubbing of the clutch around 1500rpm to 2000rpm on cold starts from standstill on first gear.

sounds like it is slipping and trying to catch itself on first gear.

sometimes it goes away after about 20 minutes of driving.

just to update, the dealer has cited the clutch as the problem so all sorted now. 3700 miles on a clutch does not sound very healthy come the end of the warranty!! hope this was one off but sounds pretty familiar to other owners stories. thks for the info .
