staying optimistic.

Well, today is day 2 with my '02 coupe and twice I got stuck.

The cambiocorsa indicator light came on indicating a problem - each time just after going from reverse to 1st - although she seemed to feel fine and would continue shifting normally. When I stopped, however, and put her in neutral and then tried to reengage a gear she wouldn't go - 1st or reverse. I was dead in the water with the engine running. Finally, after shutting her down a few times, and waiting a few minutes/eternity, to no avail, and then resetting the power, she was back to normal. My instinct tells me that this is a sensor/switch issue b/c otherwise the tranny seems to be running smoothly - in fact smoother than expectations and smoother than 4 or so others I test drove.

Thus the common factor, I believe, is the move to/from reverse. So, far the indicator light has not gone on during running around town or on my 2 hour drive up here - just as I was doing a 3 point parking turn. Luckily, each time I was in a parking lot and not blocking traffic. But feeling ridiculous as the Honda's and pick up trucks drove by looking.

What should I be looking for ? Also, I noticed that the reverse lever can be pulled vertical and then back. What's that for ? To engage reverse I've been simply pulling back lightly and letting go.

TIA - but could really use some advise since I'm 2 hours from home.

I lift up gently and pull back so it goes into reverse..
GrndLkNav - I seem to be able to engage reverse by pulling back on the lever without having to lift up. Thoughts ?

I'm dead in the driveway - 2 hrs from home. The indicator is on and she won't engage any gear. There has been no slipping, smooth shifting and the clutch was replaced 2500 miles ago.

Is there an amount of time to leave the power of to reset the system ?

This sounds a lot like a F1 pump relay going bad. If you search the prior threads, you will have found others who flatbedded their vehicles only to have the car shift fine after reaching the dealer.....However, inevitably, the relay will fail again, so it sounds like you should just repair it.
If so, anyway to jump it for now ? Where is it so I can take it out and kick it !

Reset the power twice. On the second attempt she reset and was able to get into gear. This is definitely electrical and I'm hoping its the reverse lever - - "Could it be the switch is sending conflicting signals to the trans? ""

I do not have to lift at all to pull back and engage reverse.

I have what I believe to be the service records from scratch. No indication of ever replacing the F1 relay either.

I will check ATF level when I get her home but I don't think that would keep her from engaging, just would slip, I believe ? Correct ? Also, low fluid wouldn't explain why a combination of jiggling the reverse gear and a couple of resets would work - although I don't know jiggling the reverse gear did anything, or the reset for that matter.

Ramp, I'm headed to R Moses/Captree in the morning. Mine is functioning without issue, happy to show you how it behaves.
The reversing switch must be raised, as described in the operating handbook, before reverse can be engaged. If there is no resistance to just pulling it back then it must have been damaged.
Bluyork - wish I could join you but I'm in the catskills.

I'm going to try and get her home and if I have time take out the reverse lever and see if that's the problem - I'm hoping it is. I can definately just clickback without lifting which seems to indicate a problem

Reverse lever, clutch switch, F1 relay

sounds like some uninformed car jockey forced that reverse lever..... good luck....
Did a forum search last night and seems that a bunch of folks have had a similar problem and the reverse lever was often at fault. If I have time when I get home 'm going to take it out and have a look.

Clutch switch - can someone describe where this is and can I DIY ?

F1 Relay - Ditto, where is it and where can I get a spare (and should I) ?

oK, although the reverse lever is broken, I do not believe that's the issue. Will start a new thread with pics of the disassembly.

Anyone know how to check the CC gear level ?? The manual states see Maserati.
