Actually, I think the QP is put together better than the German cars of today. Mercedes quality and fit and finish beneath the surface is a world away from what it used to be. The QP seems better than that.
Concerning the miles and reliability, to me, the challenge of racking up miles on a QP is where to get it serviced. My dealer is more than an hour away, a major hassle. High mileage is also going to badly impact the resale value of a QP, more so than on an MB. Most of these cars are driven moderately meaning there are lots of low mileage examples out there. Resale is already a challenge- I go the dealer car auctions and an '07 QP with 6k miles will barely bring $60k, half of its original sell price. Gulp!
Once you get past the negative stuff, the QP is blast to drive, totally unique experience. I have the DS tranny and it's a hoot to drive although i do keep the miles down.
