Does anybody know if the there was split production for the 2002 coupe? It seems to me that the earlier models have an antenna mounted on the rear left of the car (red car) and the models produced towards the end of the production run do not have an antenna (blue car)

Does that sound accurate? And does anyone know where the antenna is on the latter models?

From my understanding, the antenna was an "add" at dealerships for people that were getting bad radio reception. And, from reading some of the forum's here, even that didn't seem to help the reception much either.

Perhaps Mark at Maserati of Minneapolis can shed some light on the subject?

I have a fairly early car (#6085) and mine does not have the antenna.

There's a "campaign" to add the rear fender mounted antenna for owners complaining about lousy reception. The PO of my spyder (from Denver) had it done, can't say it helps much. My 20 yr old Porsche with the antenna in the windshield gets much better reception. The thinkin must be who listens to the radio in an Italian V8 anyway. :D
