service, what service

007 watch your blood pressure! i agree with everything you say. sorry state, what! motor car dealers are the same everywhere, just because we are into this mark does not make us any different. try to learn how to not look at the right side of the menu, and you will do a lot better. this will not help your bank account, but will help.

Could we break the UK service cartel by finding a few Maserati owners and servicing jointly; hire a garage and fly a couple of mechanic from somewhere to do all cars in a go...? This is what happens in countries without dealerships/official service. I have also considered taking the car for the service while in Europe (Germany? Italy?) , but don't know what would be the best place.

Dear Mr Bundas. I am happy that you agree with what I have said. We are different from others who like everyday marks. These supercars are enjoyed by enthusiasts/rich people and most people who are rich are judged successful and so are fairly intelligent and should not get ripped off. By definition if you are intelligent then you dont want to get ripped off!

If you mean that I shouldnt be looking at the pricing on the menu on the RHS then that is stupid. I like to know EXACTLY what I am getting into and how much it is going to cost and how long it will take. This is called successful planning. have you come across the 6 ps? Perfect Planning Prevents Pi@@ Poor Performance. You must be super rich that you do not need to look at the pricing menu. You are not a lottery winner are you?:)

Dont forget the old expression "A fool and his money are quickly parted".

QP 30.000km (18.5K miles) service Spain

Prices:

9 litres oil (5W40) @ 14.36/l = 129€
Air filter 60€
Oil filter 28€
Anti-pollen filter 71€
Frond brake pads 601€
labour @ 70€/hour * 10,5hours 744€

have to add 16% VAT to that

Well it' s the official Ferrari/Maserati dealer. Prices are without the 16% VATbut indeed labour is cheaper in SPain. Don't forget that the QP has some things "for free" untill after the 50.000 service......Anyway am in Marbella know and visited the local service (see other tread on suspension error) and indeed many europeans service their cars here when down on holidays since its easy and cheaper. The local marbella dealer does Ferrari/Maserati, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Harleys.......

First post and great forum with tons of good info. Congrats guys.

I was planning on selling my '00 Carrera and get a Maserati Coupe, but what I am reading here about labor & service prices really has me concerned. I had severall Ferraris before and never ever had one fixed by an authorized dealer due to the high cost. Why pay $6500 for a 30K service when it can be done for $3000 using same OEM parts and by just switching to a different labor rate ? What speaks against having your Maserati serviced by a good European mechanic/shop instead of the rip off dealer once it is out of warranty ? I mean does the car really would depreciate that much ? You are still doing the service and necessary maintenance that the car requires. Any thoughts / experience by doing it outside the authorized dealer and it's value loss (I am talking out of warranty vehicles) ?
Thanks

I don't really find the Labor rate to be the issue. I believe my Dealer is $105 hr. A regular fix everything mechanic charges $85 hr, while the guy I personally use for my other cars charges me $65. When I first got my Lotus, I met the Seller at the dealer and the Service guy, Boardwalk In Redwood City, introduced himself and said the labor rate for Lotus is $140 hr, "but we give our Lotus owners preference". Yeah right....he actually said that with a straight face..... I had this point proven on a Lotus factory recall which I brought to him for, funny how i had to GPS track him down when it came time to getting my car back.

With Maserati, it just seems that the Book time/time to repair things is considerably long. Part prices also nail you, but you know this going into the game with a low production vehicle.

$$$ for being a special owner!

starfish, do not be discouraged. today, that is modern limited specials, have outragous cost! my experience with maserati dealers and parts tells me that crooks come in all fields. maserati is not all alone. i still remember a new dodge that stressed me in the 60's, and lets not forget GM and their wonderful diesel motor quality. did any one in this group buy a 8-6-4 cadillac! now do not think that i am forgiving maserati and or the sorry group of dealers. there are good dealers, damn shame there are not more.

In europe some parts of the service upto 50.000km is included in the purchase price. Is this the same in the US? I had my 30k km (18.5k miles) service recently and paid around 1.800Eu. The bill does not disclose details. Does anybody know what parts of service is included (free) and which parts are paying? They had to change front brake pads....Thanks

Replaced the Battery in my 04 Coupe

Called the FM dealer and they said they use Interstate Batteries. Went to my local Interstate Dealer and had them order one for me. Part MTMX5, American Tire did not charge me to install it. After 20 minutes, all set. Total cost with tax was $106.95.

The tech followed the instructions in the manual. Keep the car unlocked with the alarm off and trunk open. LOWER the windows. Turn the power knob to off. Remove the battery from the chassis, then unhook negative, then positive terminals. Install new battery with vent kit. Turn power back on. Turn key to MAR position (just before it turns over) for 30 seconds to let the electronics update and you are finished. Car starts right up.

Servicing and main dealers

My 31000 mile service is due in a few months. If I get my Maserati specialist to change my oil & filter, air & pollen filters and fuel filter at a reasonable labour rate then put it into my dealer and tell them what I've had done, would they still do the rest of the 31000 mile service and stamp up my service book to show it's had a proper 31000 service ? £125 per hour PLUS 17.5% VAT is rather a lot to do something that's a no brainer and can be done for well under half the cost.

Car is an 02 Spyder and out of warranty.

Do It Yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!you Can And We'll Help!

As I keep on shouting. Dont get ripped off! A car is a Car. Just need some extra care thats all. You dont need to be a rocket scientist-but it helps!

Pardon my ignorance

But how in the name of all that is saint can ANYONE spend 10+hrs/2 days on a friggin' oil change?

In fact, the parts prices seem cheap - I've found the same w/ Jaguar as long as you don't use a main dealer, and the labour rates are indeed high enough to force me to my hourly billing rates when I was in the law business...

Thanks for the info, this seems to verify the case which I've learned with other exotic marques/models before: the service won't bankrupt you, but shop around before booking the service.
And furthermore, on older cars there's very little point to go to a main dealer.

Very Good Information

As a former certified Marine Master Mechanic for Johnson/Evinrude/OMC and Mercury Marine I am going to be doing all of my work myself. I was worried that the Maserati was like the Ferrari, where you need to pull the Engine every 25k for belt replacements, replace valve guides or whatever, but it would seem the only thing these guys are doing are the basic jiffy lube stuff and charging and arm and a leg for it....

Please keep in mind that, if you want to sell the car one day, a complete service history (by maserati or maybe other generally known quality workshop) is one of the most important points to get a reasonable price or find a buyer at all!

Having watched what goes on at a Jiffy Lube, I'd accurately say that the Maserati mechanics are a whole lot better... ;-)

Seriously though, I'm happy to pay a premium just to know that the undercarriage of my car isn't going to be destroyed by some moron attempting to put it on a lift to mount a tire, or that the concept of a "dry sump" isn't an alien concept to the oil changer...

Performed 18,000 mile service at 17,800 miles

Just wanted to update this thread with my most recent service as a point of reference for owners. Please feel free to add your service costs.

Even though the Manual calls for inspection of the Transmission Fluid and new plugs at 30,000 miles, I decided to flush and replace the tranny fluid and put in new plugs.

Here is what was done:

Oil Change - Amsoil Synthetic - Filter from Dealer $100 and $35.00
Air Filter - BMC from Formula Dynamics $99.00
Transmission Flush and Fluids - Amsoil 75W Severe Gear $50.00
Coolant Flush
Brake Fluid flush
Replaced Spark Plugs with the Densios $100.00

Checked brake pads and they were in excellent condition no need to replace at this time. $100 from Formula Dynamics

Total Part Cost (excluding brake pads) $384.00
Total Labor bill for all the services $550.00

Total cost $934.00
