I demand vindication ! >:) I said " all of his sticky buttons " , didn't I ? Those were ALL the buttons that were sticky in his car.. I didn't say panels, surrounding plates and trim pieces, non-buttons , or buttons which were not sticky, etc, etc.. :wink2::laugh2:

Damn, semantics - they can can lead to so many interpretations.. :grin2:0:)
I just did a Venn diagram of DSGT's proposition, and he's 100% correct:nerd:

:thumbsup::smile2:
Now, considering how few buttons were replaced, does $ 800 ( parts and labor ) sound excessively expensive , or is it just about right considering those were dealer prices ? Either way , it certainly makes for a compelling reason on to use alternative, reputable sources like Dave's business .

It hard to say as we don't know if the parts have been refinished or replaced. I suspect refinished based on that price. Our cost would be similar assuming I understand the parts you are refe to correctly.

I can't imagine a dealer would " refInish " anything , I believe they simply replace the parts .

Well, that's not the case. Believe it or not, some rattle can parts in house. Other times when they "refinish" that will mean they sent the parts out to shops like mine to have them done.

Oh right, I forgot about the outsourcing dealers do for certain things ; I know they send out wheels for rework, or various body repair, seats reupholstering , so I suppose other interior parts are not much different ..

Yup. The Scottsdale Ferrari dealership sent out the steering column cover that went sticky on my CS, not sure where they sent it. But it was easiest for that one part to have them take care of it from removal to refinish to re-installation while they had the car for service. The cost was far less than I expected and the refinished part looked great/new (it was no "rattle can" job, rather whoever refinished it did a very nice job).

That said, if/when I have a bunch of sticky parts that need attention, I'll have Dave's company do them all at once (the real decision problem is who to have remove and re-install all of the parts and where to "store" the car while its awaiting the refinished parts).

Appreciate the confidence. I will tell you, at least within the US, we are the only truly professional service and the only one using high end material and not rattle can paints. Another popular competitor in nothing more than a back yard business whose coating is very poor.

Here is a demonstration.

So what are the top causes ( let's just say the top three ) leading to sticky buttons and other interior pieces deterioration ? Is it exposure to sunlight ? Humidity ? Frequent touch ? Age ? My 2013 has been an outside car ( not garaged at home , nor at work ) since new and at nearly 30 K miles now the buttons show no signs any stickiness or other wear patterns ( in either look or feel ) . I live in an area with a very moderate climate ; rarely hot , rarely cold, rarely humid or raining, :smile2: and as far as usage is concerned the sport mode button is the only one getting daily and frequent use, followed by the sound volume buttons on the steering wheel , with the rest of the buttons hardly worth mentioning by virtue of relatively infrequent use of any given one of them.

It's definitely not sunlight as my MY2012 is always garaged. It definitely seems to be the heat as my garage gets very hot most of the year. The bake time seems to be about 4.5 years before it begins to manifest. Frequent use of buttons seems to play no role but may efface the graphics.

Heat, UV, humidity, chemicals, use and most importantly - time are the drivers.

So, this is a rather interesting story....

I built my house in 2000, a year or so later I put together a home theater system. The system had like 5 remotes so I got a Universal remote. I put the main Rotel remote in a drawer, in a climate controlled house, out of the sun.

About 3 years after, I had to get it out - when I did it was sticky. I was scratching my head thinking WTF happened to this? Did I spill coffee? I did what I needed and put it back.

Fast forward to Ferrari ownership and now I had my answer :D

Holy crap that's a scary sight ! ( the remote ) Looks like it was dipped in glue and then handed over to a furry white cat to play with..

I had my car's exterior ceramic-coated, I wonder if they have the same ( or similar ) product for the interior to preserve the current condition of the buttons and prevent them from falling victim to the sticky plague for the same 5 year, 10 year, or lifetime guarantee the paint coating offers provide. They claim to have that treatment for leather seats but I did not bother to look into it, nor ask about plastic trim components..

I don't think there's a cut off. Some cars have it, some don't and coating technology has improved.

It's possibly helpful to note that this is not an issue limited to Maseratis, or even cars. I have remote controls at home with exactly the same issue...
