Hi All

I am close to buy 4200 spyder CC from 2003. It has about 28k miles which is very good to the point i am suspicious if the odometer is brought back.
I got the full service history from a reputable independent here in Dubai.

What i've noticed is that previous owners were paying between $5k-$10k per year for fixing and maintenance. Most of that was for labour.
I was prepared to accept $2k-$3k and some occasional $5k per year but $10k is bit too much. Especially if the car is $15k (In Middle East they go for this price)
Clutch and Suspension is still not changed so that might be coming up.

I have attached few pics of the invoices (exchange rate is 3.7AED=1USD) so i would be very very thankful if you guys give me your opinion if this is normal cost and of course if this is good purchase. I will take it for PPI in 2 weeks as the owner is not in the country.

Thanks so much for your help

That's a nice looking car. The items replaced on those invoices seem to be mostly normal maintenance and rubber bits that probably don't last as long as they should in your dessert environment.

A good PPI is a great idea and should you purchase it you'd probably be wise to shop around for a more affordable mechanic and start saving up for that expensive clutch replacement...

All you've shown us is that it is wildly expensive to run a car in Dubai. 4200's are actually very reliable cars aside from the CC. What does it cost to run a Lexus or BMW?
Thanks Itmax, Tony for your replies

I owned BMW and currently own Porsche Cayenne
For both of them, the annual general maintenance was about 700-1,000$ with the major one going up to $2,000 (BMW was slightly cheaper to maintain than the Porsche). This is comparable to the Maserati.

Whats racking up the bill for the Maserati is the repairing and/or replacing the parts. Also most of the expenses, as shown in the invoices, is labor cost and not the part itself, which is surprising to me.
Fortunately i haven't taken my BMW or Porsche to the garage for this. Only general maintenance. So i cant compare.

The only solution i see (like itmax suggested) is take it to more affordable garage as this one is known for being most expensive independent in Dubai.
I have talked to a guy here that has Maserati 4200 CC and he serviced it to another garage and saved fortune on that

Another is to buy the parts myself from ebay or similar. Perhaps like that i can bring the annual spend to $2-$5k :)

Also i am worried with the note on the invoice dated Feb/2017. It reads "All shock absorbers are weak" Replacing that and the inevitable F1 Pump can cost $8-$10k

I hope to get the opinion of the community if these are normal repairs and hopefully pull the trigger these days

Thanks so much guys. I am more relaxed to get into the world of Maserati knowing i can rely on such a helpful community. It really makes a difference

My 2002 has 26,000 miles and my shocks are fine as far as I'm concerned. Everything works on my car and it has been trouble-free. My car has the Skyhook shocks (similar to magneride) and they are expensive. To get an idea of reasonable parts prices look at https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/maserati/4200-spyder-2003. Was the independent that charged wild prices a Ferrari shop? Being overcharged adds to Ferrari prestige and mystique.

Yeah the shop is "specialized" in Porsche Ferrari, Aston Martin etc etc..

I wonder how much those Skyhook shocks cost

I tested the car today and I loved it..the acceleration, the feel, the sound. My God

We agreed on the price ($13,600) and after i take it for PPI, if all is fine i guess I'll get it. The only thing is that he is traveling so we need to do this in 3-4 weeks

I am thinking now to order that 80amp F1 pump relay as i read can save you the pump and perhaps the FD DBW as i felt the gear change could have been bit faster. I think the gear change was bit less than a second on 5k rpm

Rest looked fine

Your comments are much appreciated guys!!

Congratulations, hope the PPI goes well and you get lots of enjoyment out of the new (to you) Maserati. At that price I think you are starting off extremely well. Wish we could get them so cheap here in the USA as I'd be putting an addition on my garage and getting a few more of these beauties while I can...

My gs Le has now done 101000 kl and my shocks are fine. I wonder whether this service agency preys on people who have money. They can find things that don’t exist and replace parts that don’t need replacing. Eg the outside temp sensor in the mirror. On hot days mine registers an error , it is just a quirk that you live with as next drive it’s fine. I would be wary of that garage it seems too many repairs for so few miles. Also labour costs seem extreme.
