I have been looking at reviews on Edmunds and other sources on the net
It seems to me that the GT has a much better owner rating than the Ghibli which surprised me since the Ghibli is a newer design
Perhaps since the GT has been produced longer the bugs have been exorcised ?
If so is there a best year ?
I was going to look at 2009 and 2010 models ( not first year production - 2008 )
My wife and I want a comfortable GT cruiser for long trips I plan to keep my 2006 911 6 speed stick ( she wants me to buy a Mercedes E class but I love the Maserati !!)

Thank you guys for your input which would be greatly appreciated !

Sorry for offending any Ghibli owners but to me, the car is nothing more than a glorified, overpriced "Chrysler 300c." The internet is littered with not-so favorable reviews of the car. Even with massive discounts, the car barely sells. Depreciation is even worse. Quality and reliability of any Maserati (even the GT) is nothing to write home about, but at least the GT is a pure Maserati with no Chrysler contamination (excluding the 2018 model).

If you want a 4-dr. sedan that represents genuine, exhilarating Italian driving experience and performance, get the Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio.

In a nutshell, yes, the GT is a better quality car than the Ghibli but on the same token, don't believe everything you read on the net. Even on this forum there's lots of misinformation about the Ghibli and while personally I would avoid 2014 and 2015 models, fact of the matter is if you are looking at a used Ghibli in those same years from an authorized Maserati dealer, chances are all the bugs have been addressed.

2016 was a better year than previous for Ghibli models however in my opinion, 2017 models are the best. Before the Ghibli was reintroduced in 2014, Maserati was building around 4,000 cars combined for the US with the GT & QP models then in 2014 & 2015 Maserati built 7,500 each year alone for the Ghibli. I realize those numbers are low compared to the competition however it was too much for a boutique brand like Maserati. In 2016 Maserati scaled down production of the Ghibli to about 6,000 and around 5,000 for 2017 however to Maserati, the Ghibli still represents their "volume" model if there's such a thing at those figures.

In California the Ghibli's have no problem selling/leasing and while the I love the Alfa brand, if you read the forums, apparently the sky is falling there as well but after all that, I'd still go with the GT :laugh2:

You also have to realize that owners of the GT have a GT because they WANTED a GT. The GT is great, but there's many not great things about it too.

For owners of a Ghibli, they're people who are in the mid-size luxury vehicle range, which has tons of comparisons against MB, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, and a slew of others. So these owners are probably much less dedicated than GT owners.

GT is flagship. Ghibli is a entry point to Maserati. The spread of msrp is almost double (in canada). GT is generally reliable but I've paid about 10k in additional repairs since I got mine. All dealership work of course.

GT and Ghibli are two different cars. Ghibli at under 50K used is one best choices for handling, braking, automatic shifting, and engine sound for a newish car. Interior materials just not on par with Jaguar or BMW, but the Ghibli is an impressive one if driving comes first, style 2nd, and quality 3rd. I wouldn't worry on a '14 or '15 from a Maserati dealer or 3rd party if you can get a complete service history. Seems like Maserati keeps the best lease returns and dumps the rest. Next would be a Ghibli traded in on a new something else. If the car is that nice they'll keep it. If not, they send it to auction.

I owned a Ghibli but sold it to get a GT Sport. The Ghibli has more of a mass produced feel in terms of the build, whereas the GT has more a handbuilt coachwork feel.

I enjoyed the Ghibli, modern, looks good, but to me it lacked that edge. The GT can be a comfortable cruiser, but hit the sport mode and it can switch it's character to something more aggressive and crazy especially when that V8 sings.

Too much Chrysler/FCA influence on the modern maserati, even found the chrysler stamp on the water pump !, saw they were going to mutilate the 18' GT and stick that MTC plus audio system in it, hope all the bugs are out before its in production !.

Stick to the Pininfarina design stuff.. stay away from the F1 pump models and in my opinion.. best made was the quattroporte last year 2012 GTS sedan, still need a degree from MIT to work the Navigator and voice command / infotainment system, but fun as hell to drive and the sound / style are the real deal.

Thank you Moz

!A good friend just bought a one owner 2010 Gran tourismo with only 20K miles for $39K from a Maserati dealer !!
I will be driving it soon and am seriousily considering one.

I really like the design of the Ghibli but after all I have read its now off my list of consideration. I think a GT would be a fun car to own in addition to my 40K mile 2006 911 . I bet that the GT would make a wonderful long distance cruiser the 911 for short trips and an occasional PCA track day

Thank you for your thoughts !

Not sure what "owner rating" measures, but if it is owner satisfaction, perhaps the higher rating for GT owners is related to the uniqueness of the GT's design, whereas the Ghibli is pretty much just another SUV with a Maserati emblem on the grill. My wife test drove one, and wasn't impressed. She prefers her Cayenne.

I used to own a Ghibli before I got my GT. If you want a four door sedan, then Ghibli is probably the most beautiful one out there. They had issues with the initial years, but they seemed to be fixed now. Also on paper, ghibli has a faster 0-60 than the GT :O

I wanted a convertible so i went with the GT, but as far as sedans go, none come close to the Ghibli and the QP in terms of beauty, power and style.

Cant comment on Levante but design is pretty cool.

Just my two cents.
